Life and Allied Health Sciences Librarian --  University of Akron -- Ohio
 
Life and Allied Health Sciences Librarian
The University of Akron Libraries is seeking an innovative, flexible
individual with a strong service orientation to fill a 12-month,
tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, in its
Science and Technology (S&T) Library.DUTIES: The Life and Allied Health
Sciences Librarian provides general reference assistance approximately 10
hours per week, including some evening and/or weekend hours. The incumbent
partners with the College of Nursing in instructional design and with
learning groups. Working with this college and the departments of Biology,
Biomedical Engineering, Allied Health Technology, and related disciplines,
the librarian provides in-depth reference service and oversees collection
development in these areas. The faculty member also conducts library
instruction sessions and participates fully in the University Libraries'
information literacy efforts, which include teaching a course for credit.
The incumbent works under the general direction of the Head of the S&T
Library, and is a functioning member of the University Libraries
Faculty.QUALIFICATIONSRequired:* ALA accredited MLS or equivalent *
Familiarity with science and technology literature in print and electronic
formats * Evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills *
Demonstrated interpersonal and organizational skills * Ability to work
flexibly and collegially * Commitment to scholarship, service, and ongoing
professional development needed to meet the University Libraries' tenure
requirements.Preferred: * BA or BS in one of the life or health sciences,
or academic or special library experience with same * Demonstrated
knowledge of specialized life and health sciences resources in various
formats * Reference and/or instruction experience.UNIVERSITY AND

APPOINTMENT/SALARY/BENEFITS: This is a 12-month tenure-track position with
full faculty status and responsibilities. Salary begins at $40,000.

tuition/fee reduction for immediate family. A collective bargaining
agreement is in place, and membership in Akron-AAUP or payment of an
