Information
International Associates, Inc. (IIa), an information management, systems, and
technology company, is seeking a Biodiversity Content Knowledge Manager /
Scientist to work on biodiversity informatics projects in support of the
National Biological Information Infrastructure (NBII) (www.nbii.gov) and the
Fire And Research Management Exchange System (FRAMES) (http://frames.nbii.gov).
This is a full-time position.
Responsibilities:
Acquisition and
development of electronic content for the NBII and FRAMES.
Conducting inventories
of information tools and standards used by biologists to manage information.
Building partnership
relationships with other organizations to include governmental, non-profit,
conservation, and community groups.
Providing standardized
information content on national plans, priorities, spatial and temporal
information on the components of biological diversity.
Investigating new ways
to retrieve and display relevant information content from disciplines outside
the standard realm of biological information sciences.
Qualifications:
Qualifications
(Required):
A Master Library
Science with biology-related background or biology/fire-related MS degree with a
background in information science,
Two to four years
experience preferred, but will consider recent graduates with prior work
experience.
Web design experience,
including experience with HTML, and familiarity with content management systems
Experience with
databases and data management tools
Technical Background:
Library or Information
Science degree or equivalent experience
Experience working in
the scientific community
Familiarity with
Biodiversity / Biology / Ecology / Conservation Biology (desirable)
Familiarity with Fire
Science / Fire Management (desirable)
Familiarity with
metadata standards such as FGDC, DublinCore, Darwincore (desirable)
Familiarity in working
in a portal technology (example: Plumtree) environment (desirable but not
required)
Computer Science
experience with java and .net programming (desirable but not required)
GIS Experience
(desirable but not required)
Skill Set:
Ability to work on a
team
Excellent analytical
and communication skills (oral and written)
Ability to present
yourself professionally
Self motivation
Presentation and
technical writing skills
This position is a
