Assistant or Associate Professor 
School of Library and Information Science

The University of South Carolina School of Library and Information Science
invites applications and nominations for a full-time tenure track position
at the assistant or associate professor level to begin in August 2007.
Description: Full-time tenure track appointment at assistant or
associate level with teaching and research interests in information
science and/or information literacy.  Primary teaching
responsibilities will be to teach graduate level courses in the
information science and school library media areas. Candidates are
expected to demonstrate enthusiasm for and excellence in teaching,
strength in publication showing potential for scholarly productivity, a
strong commitment to distance learning, a student centered focus, and the
ability to assume a leadership role in state and national professional
communities and the University.  
Minimum requirements include an earned doctorate in library and
information science or a related field, a clearly articulated research
agenda, and evidence of teaching excellence. Nine month pay basis with
possibility of summer teaching supplement.
The School of Library and Information Science, fully accredited by the
American Library Association (ALA) and approved by the National Council
for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), offers the Master of
Library and Information Science degree and two programs of advanced study
beyond the Master's degree: the Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study
in Library and Information Science and the Specialist in Library and
Information Science.  Plans for the undergraduate degree program in
information studies begins in Fall 2008 and a doctoral program in library
and information science begins in Fall 2007. The School serves a state,
regional, and national audience via active campus based and distance
education programs and has a strong commitment to both students and the
professional community.  The School, located on the campus' historic
Horseshoe, has a faculty of 14 and a staff of 10.  It has nationally
recognized programs in school library media, youth services, and medical
librarianship.  Since its inception, the School has emphasized the use of
information technology as a vital component of library and information
