Instructional Services Librarian --  University of Illinois at Springfield

The successful candidate will perform general reference work at the
information desk and also by email or chat, including some evenings and
weekends.  This position will provide liaison services, including
instruction in the use of library resources, for several departments and
will have the opportunity to teach Library Instructional Services courses,
including online courses.  In consultation with other library faculty, this
position develops goals and priorities for the library instruction program.
 He/She will perform collection development activities in his or her
assigned areas and serve on library and university committees including
Library Cabinet.
Qualifications:  MLS from an ALA-accredited program or its equivalent;
earned by start date; Excellent communication skills in a variety of media;
Knowledge of basic personal computing applications such as MS Office suite
for word processing, presentation preparation, email, etc.; Knowledge of
best practices in library instruction and information literacy.
Desirable:  Experience in reference work and library instruction;
Knowledge of online learning techniques, particularly as they apply to
library instruction; Experience in online teaching; Knowledge of Web 2.0
best practices as applied to libraries.
Appointment: Twelve-month tenure-track appointment, with initial
appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. To achieve tenure, faculty
are expected to demonstrate a excellence in teaching and quality in a
combination of scholarship, and service.
Compensation and Benefits:  This is a twelve-month tenure-track
position, with initial appointment at rank of Assistant Professor.  Salary
is $40,000 per year.  Benefits include 24 days annual leave, 25 days sick
leave, nine state holidays, two floating holidays, and a choice of health
and retirement plans.  An H-1B visa is required for any non-U.S. citizen
prior to employment.
