Science Librarian and Assistant Professor --  University of Illinois at
Chicago -- Illinois
 

Library: Science Librarian and Assistant Professor (Head of
Department). The University of Illinois at Chicago seeks a dynamic and
innovative librarian who will be responsible for developing programs that
support the research, knowledge management, instructional, and life-long
learning needs of students and faculty in the sciences, engineering, and
mathematics. The Science Librarian will be expected to forge collaborative
relationships with academic departments; create new programs and
initiatives that respond to trends in scientific research and publishing;
and, establish disciplinary and interdisciplinary information literacy
programs. As a part of its strategic plan, the UIC Library has implemented
an institutional repository and an online journal publishing system. As a
part of his or her duties, we expect the Science Librarian to promote new
modes of scholarly communication, recruit content for the repository, and
monitor developments in cyberinfrastructure and applications for
e-science. The Science Librarian provides leadership for 1 professional
librarian and 2 support staff, and manages the day-to-day operations of
the Science Library, which supports graduate and undergraduate programs in
biology, chemistry, earth and environmental science, and physics. Minimum
Qualifications: MLA/ALA; two years' professional library
experience or equivalent professional experience; supervisory experience;
experience in instruction or collection development; undergraduate or
graduate degree in the sciences; demonstrated ability to work effectively
with faculty, students, and library staff; excellent communication,
presentation and interpersonal skills; demonstrated knowledge of science
research and publication trends; evidence of ability to meet University
standards in research, publication, and professional service commensurate
with tenure. Salary/Rank/Contract: Salaries are competitive
and based on relevant experience; department head positions begin at
