The University Library of the University of Illinois at Chicago invites applications for a faculty position in the Reference Department. Under the direction of the Reference Librarian, the Assistant Reference Librarian is responsible for providing traditional reference service at the reference desk, answering online e-mail and chat reference questions and conducting one-on-one research consultations. Reference librarians at Daley Library provide instruction for UIC classes and the community at large both in face-to-face sessions and through online tutorials. Reference librarians design and create online instructional materials and also content for the Library's Web site. They participate in outreach to both the UIC community and the community at large by disseminating information about the Library's services, resources and programs to faculty, students and local organizations. UIC librarians have faculty status and are expected to conduct research, publish and contribute to professional organizations.Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program; two years' of professional library experience or equivalent professional experience; ability to vigorously promote reference services and instructional programs and to assist users at varying levels of educational background; experience in developing materials and services that provide access to library collections or aid in reference service and information literacy including Web-based and other electronic information services; evidence of participation in University and professional activities; willingness to keep current with library developments in reference, research, instruction, and document delivery by attending conferences, workshops, seminars, and reading professional literature; ability to meet university standards in research, publication and professional service commensurate with tenure. Salary/Rank/Contract: Salary and rank dependent upon qualifications and experience; entry level faculty appointments in the UIC library begin at $40,000; faculty status.
