POSITION SUMMARY This position works with the Library Development Program Manager to achieve the goals of the program through the development of long-range and strategic plans, evaluation of progress, and recommendation of policies and procedures for the program and the division, in the area of statewide library development and the use of federal, LSTA funding. This position manages a staff of professional librarians who consult with library staff, library trustees, government officials, and citizens across the state on issues of major concern: governance, library law, statistics, youth services, training, and library practices. Also supervises staff who manage statewide projects and provide training for the benefit of Washington's libraries. May also manage significant, high profile, policy-level statewide projects which benefit all types of Washington libraries, increase the skill and knowledge of Washington library staff, and increase the ability of libraries to better serve their customers through enhanced and innovative services. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Masters degree in library and information science or equivalent from an American Library Association-accredited program Librarian Certification by the State Librarian authorized through the Office of the Secretary of State Five years of experience as a professional librarian Two years of experience in supervising or leading direct reports including responsibilities such as to interview, hire, assign and direct work, do performance evaluations, set expectations, instruct, coach and identify training needs DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Five years of upper level management experience including working with a library board of trustees, communities, other government officials, or local legislators Knowledge of Washington library law Knowledge of the governance structure of libraries in Washington COMPENSATION $3908 - $5003 per month, depending on qualifications.
