Instructor/Assistant or Associate Professor/E-Learning Librarian
University Library

The University Library at Appalachian State University seeks a dynamic,
service-oriented E-Learning Librarian to develop an innovative online and
virtual presence for the teaching and promotion of information literacy,
to actively participate in the Reference and Instruction Team, and to
engage in an on-going program of scholarship and professional service. 
The successful candidate will reach out to the faculty and students on
campus and off campus, to provide online services.  This is a
tenure-track, twelve-month faculty position beginning August 2007. 

Responsibilities include:
·Designing, creating, and facilitating the use of online
instructional materials, tutorials, and other digital learning tools which
will integrate with the campus course management software system.
·Collaborating with librarians to create discipline-specific
web-based exercises, simulations and other online and virtual
applications.
·Leading the library on projects that focus on blended learning,
e-learning and the creation of emerging technology-enhanced learning
environments.
·Leading the library on the development of an assessment program
for online and virtual instructional materials.
·Providing reference services and library instruction on- and
off-campus and during a regular rotation of evening and weekend Engaging
in an active program of scholarship and participation in professional
service. 

Qualifications
Required
·ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library and Information Science
A second advanced degree in a relevant field or plans to pursue such a
degree (a second advanced degree is required to be eligible for the rank
of assistant professor).
·Experience or educational background in the theory and practice of
 library and information literacy instruction.
·Experience or educational background in instructional design or a
related field.
·Demonstrated ability to apply current and emerging technologies to
create web-based exercises, simulations and other online and virtual
applications to meet the needs of students, faculty and researchers in the
changing learning environment.
·Experience or educational background in the use of assessment
strategies for online and virtual instructional materials. 
·Demonstrated ability to both take leadership roles and collaborate
with a wide variety of people.
·Enthusiasm for working in a team environment with students,
faculty and library personnel.
·Commitment to engaging in an active program of scholarship and
professional service
·Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred
·Master's degree in instructional design, educational media, or a
related field.
·Experience in providing reference and instruction services in an
academic library or coursework in academic librarianship.
·Active participation in planning and/or implementing an
information literacy program.
·Experience developing web-based exercises, simulations and other
online and virtual applications.
·Commitment to achieving diversity within a university community.
·Life experiences similar to those of underrepresented populations
at Appalachian.  The Library strongly encourages applications from members

This twelve-month tenure track position will be available in the summer of
2007.  The position may be filled at the Instructor, Assistant Professor,
or Associate Professor ranks.  Rank as an Assistant or Associate Professor
and continued employment beyond the Instructor term requires an advanced
degree in addition to the MLS.  Salary and rank are determined on the
basis of qualifications and experience.  Minimum salaries for the ranks
are:  Instructor $39,000, Assistant Professor $42,000, and Associate
Professor $45,000.
