LIBRARY DIGITAL INITIATIVES COORDINATOR

    
Clemson University seeks an energetic, creative, and service-oriented librarian who will provide leadership and vision in the creation of the Library Digital Initiatives Unit.  This is a 12-month tenure-track position with faculty rank and status and reports to the Dean of Libraries. Clemson library faculty members participate in library-wide planning and governance, work in a shared decision-making environment, and are active in professional organizations.  Library faculty members are encouraged to participate in University-wide initiatives.
   
*****Responsibilities***** 
    
Leads the planning, implementation and evaluation of the Libraries’ digitization activities through collaboration with library units to develop a high-quality and responsive digital library initiative;
Collaborates with a Libraries’ digital activities coordinating group to set goals and priorities for digital collections;
Supervises day-to-day operations of the unit, identifies training and development needs for unit employees, and promotes the Libraries’ and University’s commitment to diversity;
Develops and maintains an effective, collegial, service-oriented team environment within the unit;
Fosters positive relationships with all communities involved in digital initiatives – within the Libraries, the University and the State of South Carolina;
Seeks opportunities for additional funding by developing proposals and coordinating grant requests;
Keeps up-to-date with developments and emerging trends in scholarly communication and library digital services;
Represents the Libraries on consortia, regional and national committees as appropriate.
   
*****Requirements*****
    
ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library or Information Sciences
Experience with digitization projects/initiatives
Demonstrated strategic planning and project management skills
Demonstrated skills directing and evaluating the work of others
Knowledge of cataloging, metadata and archival storage standards
Knowledge of copyright, intellectual access and digital rights management issues
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a challenging and complex environment
Excellent communication skills
Evidence of or potential for professional and/or scholarly activity
    
*****Preferred Qualifications*****
   
Familiarity with digital asset management systems
Experience with integrated library systems
Experience with developing grant proposals
Experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating library digitization projects
    
Salary and benefits: Minimum $55,000; rank and competitive salary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience. State of South Carolina, TIAA-CREF, or other retirement plans available. Various medical plans, dental plans, 18 days annual leave, 15 days sick leave, 12 paid holidays, and liberal professional development leave are provided. The University offers up to four credit hours to employees each semester. Library faculty receive an individual stipend for travel or other professional development activity.
    
Library: Clemson University Libraries employs 30 librarians and over 70 support staff, uses the Innovative Interfaces’ Millennium integrated library system and has recently purchased CONTENTdm as its digital management system.
