Information Architect/Metadata Specialist
Position summary:

    The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is seeking a Metadata Specialist to work with the metadata team to develop a metadata model to standardize metadata management across the Fund based on business requirements. He or she will develop a strategy for implementing the metadata model and enforcing metadata usage guidelines. In addition, the incumbent will help in the evaluation and selection of appropriate metadata registry software and other information technologies relevant to metadata, controlled vocabulary and other information access projects. The Metadata Specialist is expected to employ best practices in search query analysis to optimize and identify taxonomy and metadata opportunities.

Responsibilities:

    • Develop a metadata model and a compliance strategy to standardize metadata repositories of the Fund
    • Assist in identifying issues and opportunities for future search enhancement as well as metadata and taxonomy growth
    • Perform regular analysis of user queries to deliver reports to enhance the overall information architecture of the Fund
    • Use regular analysis of customer queries to identify necessary search and taxonomy maintenance and optimization of query-level results.
    • Assist in maintaining metadata to deliver focused, relevant information via site search and browsing
    • Manage cross-application taxonomies by working closely with cross-functional teams

    Skills and Expertise:

    • Masters Degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent work experience
    • 7+ years Expertise in developing metadata management strategy e.g. building and mapping metadata repositories
    • Extensive experience in the realm of Data Modeling, Data Architecture Design using UML, Data Management, Data Flow, Metadata Markup Standards and Strategies, SQL and Expertise in XML
    • Experience defining processes for tagging content for effective storage and retrieval
    • Experience in developing and maintaining taxonomies using taxonomy development and management tools is highly desirable
    • Experience with search engine mechanics and functionalities, combined with in-depth knowledge of search logic and results yielded from query language
    • Experience in search services, and a strong understanding and familiarity with controlled vocabularies and the principles and mechanics of effective information architecture including taxonomy formulation, metadata development, navigation design and enterprise search as well as the relationship between taxonomies, metadata, search and navigation
    • Ability to balance business requests with users growing needs in the development and growth of system taxonomies and metadata
    • Builds and maintains strong relationships with team members to meet organizational goals as well as strong sense of urgency with excellent organizational and time management skills
    • Excellent analytical, and communication skills and creative problem solving abilities
    • Ability to work effectively in a fast-moving, multi-project environment and ability to respond immediately to often changing business priorities
    • Knowledge of a second language is a plus
