Located on 426 acres in the West San Fernando Valley, Pierce College
combines state-of-the-art technology and learning with the picturesque
beauty of its rolling hills.  With enrollment of more than 18,000 students
per semester, the college’s emphasis on student success makes it an
educational leader statewide with a reputation for innovation and academic
excellence.

Pierce College is now seeking to expand its outstanding faculty by
offering a full-time tenure track Librarian position starting with the
Fall 2007 semester.

Department
The Pierce College Library Department provides information resources and
reference assistance to students, faculty, staff and community members. 
The
department includes 4 full-time faculty librarians and 5 adjunct faculty
librarians to assist in accessing this information, facilitating
information
competency, critical thinking, intellectual independence and life-long
learning skills.

Salary and Benefits
The current starting range is from $45,200 to $70,370 for the 10-month
academic year depending on education and experience.  The PhD differential
is $2,850 per academic year.  The District provides an excellent benefit
package including medical, vision, dental and life insurance to the
employee and eligible dependents.

Responsibilities

Duties of this position may include, but are not limited to, the
following:

    * Assist in the planning, implementation, coordination, evaluation and
promotion

            of the library’s instructional and information competency
programs.

    * Assist in the development of library publications and presentations
to promote

            the library’s resources.

    * Provide reference and information services as scheduled.

 

    * Participate in collection development (print and electronic
resources), and cataloging.

    * Participate in development of library policies and procedures and
serve on

            department, college and district committees when required.

    * Provide direction to library staff and student assistants.

 

    * Collaborate with other faculty to increase students’ knowledge of

            library resources.

    * Other library related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Library Science, Library and Information Science from
a program accredited by the American Library Association OR the
equivalent from an accredited college or university; and,

A sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic,
cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college faculty,
staff and students.

Desirable Qualifications

    * Possess an excellent academic record.

 

    * Strong written and oral communication skills.

    * Knowledge of current library principles, practices and

            technologies.

    * Team-oriented, flexible, and able to work independently and

            collaboratively in a rapidly changing environment.

    * Experience in providing reference service and

            bibliographic instruction in an academic environment,
including
            teaching library research strategies and presenting
workshops.

    * Strong interest in developing information competency/literacy

            programs.

    * Experience with automated library systems and networks.

 

    * Experience assisting other faculty with the integration of

            classroom assignments and library research and information
            resources, including online databases and the internet.

    * A commitment to keeping current with advances in technology.
