Instruction Librarian
(Los Medanos College)
Final Filing Date: April 13, 2007
Los Medanos College is accepting applications for a full-time, tenure
track librarian. This assignment begins Fall 2007 (mid-August). We are
seeking an enthusiastic, creative and service-oriented librarian for a
full-time position beginning on or about August 2007. The successful
applicant will be a flexible, team-oriented person who is able to work
both independently and collaboratively in an ever-changing environment.
The person filling this position will have primary responsibility for
coordinating the instructional activities of the Los Medanos College
library. The position is also responsible for regularly scheduled hours at
the reference desk and for the preparation and presentation of general and
specific library orientations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Responsible for library instruction program including curriculum
development and distance education.
2.Collaborate with other departments/divisions to facilitate infusion
of information competency into the curriculum.
3.Assist in identifying the technology needs of the Library.
4.Regularly scheduled reference desk hours.
5.Prepare and present general and specific library orientations and
conduct library tours.
6.Participate in collection development.
7.Maintain formal office and campus hours and participate in department
and/or division meetings.
8.Participate in curriculum development and serve on department, division,
and college-wide committees and task forces necessary to maintain and
improve the instructional program.
9.Teach scheduled library classes, either onsite and/or online; comply
with District, college and department policies in the performance of
duties.
10.Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population
of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective
teaching methodologies and informed critical feedback on assignments and
discussions.
11.Evening assignments may be required as part of the regular contract.  
12.Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The applicant must possess one of the following qualifications:
1. A valid lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential
authorizing full-time librarianship, OR
2. Master's Degree in Library Science, Library and Information Science, OR
3. The equivalent. (If you believe that you meet the minimum
qualifications via equivalency, please fill out the Master's
Degree Discipline Equivalency form in the application packet.)

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
·Experience teaching in an academic environment.
·Familiarity with curriculum development and distance education.
·Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse
academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of
community college students
·Experience in creating credit instructional programs, specifically
library and information science courses.
·A working knowledge of and experience with reference services to
adults, preferably in an academic setting and ability to provide reference
services in an online environment.
·Experience with designing and conducting library orientations and
bibliographic instruction classes for students, preferably in a variety of
disciplines.
·Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff and student
employees.
·Evidence of strong interpersonal and communication skills
·Ability to meet deadlines for assigned projects and activities
·Knowledge of student learning outcomes and their assessment.
·Demonstrated leadership ability and willingness to participate in
collegial governance
