Georgia State University (GSU) Library is part of a dynamic urban university in the heart of Atlanta. GSU Library seeks a senior-level librarian to lead those departments most directly involved in supporting the research needs of faculty and students at this urban research university. As one of two associate university librarians, the AUL for Research Services will lead departments devoted to liaison services, and departments engaged in the acquisition, cataloging, and management of the collections, including development of the institution-wide digital repository. This position will actively participate in collection budget management and provide leadership in articulating the direction, balance and emphasis of collections. The two AULs work in close association with the Dean of Libraries to help the libraries evolve with the changing needs of scholars and students while assuring the library's centrality in the university. Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be a leader who has a thorough understanding of the research process and scholarly communication, as well as a comprehensive vision of the roles of paper and digital collections, and of professional library assistance in enriching the research environment of the university. Direct reports to the AUL for Research Services include the heads of the Acquisitions, Catalog and Liaison Services departments, Collection Development, and the Digital Technologies Librarian. Within those departments are also Interlibrary Loan and Collection Management. The AUL for Learning and Technology Initiatives, leads the departments devoted to library technologies and general public services including Access Services, the Learning Commons, which encompasses Reference and Instruction, and services focused on undergraduate learning. Requirements: ALA-accredited or Georgia BOR-approved master's degree in library science. Minimum seven years 'professional experience, five in an academic library, including supervisory experience and a demonstrated understanding of the research environment, collection development, and issues and practices in scholarly communication. Demonstrated interest in scholarly and professional activities. Preferred: Second advanced degree; experience with liaison-like programs. Salary and rank: $65,000 minimum for 12 months, commensurate with the candidate's education and experience. Appointment at a faculty rank, on a contract renewal basis.
