Library Director --  Dixie State College of Utah -- Utah
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Supervises and directs operation of library.  Manages staff and
professional librarians and assumes responsibility for decisions relative
to library services.  Formulates and revises policies and procedures to
maintain effective library operations.
*Directs development of library's collections; works with assigned
departments and faculty to maintain a balanced collection; assists in the
selection of Library materials in assigned areas through reading
professional literature, selected journals, and other pertinent
publications.
*Manages library budgets to effectively meet the needs of a fast-changing
library.
*Responsible for all computer systems in library.
*Oversees programs for in-service training and bibliographic instruction.
*Reviews and approves final preparation of annual reports and participates
in academic accreditation as needed.
*Oversees library related instruction and assists other librarians in
providing instruction and reference services.
*Responsible for library as a physical facility
*Chairs the Library Committee and works effectively with academic
departments.
*Supervises all library grant applications and administration.
*Serves on campus and statewide committees.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
*Master's degree in library science required and five years of related
experience.
*Management experience in an academic library.
*Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of library
science.
*Good knowledge of college administration, policies and procedures.
*Considerable knowledge of budgeting in an academic environment and of
college personnel policies and procedures.
*Experience in submitting grant applications and administering grants.
*Working knowledge of computer systems, including hardware and software,
used in the library environment.
*Conversant with current electronic library applications, including
acquisitions and Internet services.
*Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
*Ability to manage diverse staff, including providing regular feedback and
evaluation.
*Ability to effectively provide instruction to students, faculty, and
other patrons, individually and in a group setting.
*Ability to exercise critical human relations skills in establishing and
maintaining effective working relations with students, faculty, staff,
other libraries, vendors, and the public.
CONTRACT: Full time (12 month) tenure track faculty position.  Salary
is based on faculty salary schedule and dependent upon qualifications and
experience.  Excellent benefit package included.
