An administrative restructuring of the Libraries supports this new direction through the creation of this position, Assistant/Associate Dean for Information Resources & Scholarly Communication, and four other associate deans: Administration & Planning; Information Technology; Learning; and Research. Emphasis is being placed on advancing the Libraries' information resources through stronger collaboration with the disciplinary faculty and an increasing interdisciplinary focus. In addition, using information technology the Libraries are reaching out to the campus by creating e-Scholar, a distributed institutional repository providing access to e-archives, e-pubs, and e-data. http://escholar.lib.purdue.edu/. Scholarly communication today presents options for dissemination of research, the Libraries in collaboration with the disciplines must explore all viable alternatives to the present paradigm. Purdue has the third largest international student enrollment in the nation: Lafayette/ West Lafayette is a growing, vibrant, historic community located about forty-five minutes from Indianapolis and less than two hours from Chicago: http://www.lafayette-in.com/.Duties & Responsibilities: The Assistant/Associate Dean for Information Resources and Scholarly Communication reports to the Dean of Libraries and has the responsibility to administer information resources (includes print and digital) in the Libraries by leading collection and information resource policy development and resource sharing and access services (including campus-wide document delivery and circulation, interlibrary loan, and the print repository); lead and inform the Libraries and academic community on issues and trends in scholarly communication; develop strategic directions with other assistant/associate deans; foster effective working relationships with library and academic colleagues, enhance and assess service quality; and play a leading role in library-wide planning initiatives. Specific responsibilities include leading a team of library subject specialists/department heads in collection development in designing work processes and services in support of learning and research; managing and directing the Libraries' collections budget of approximately $10 million; initiating Libraries'-wide discussion on information resources development in light of changes in scholarly communication; working with the dean of libraries in planning and communicating with the academic community about information resource and scholarly communication issues; representing the Libraries in the CIC planning for collaborative collection and information resource initiatives, and in local, regional, and national arenas as appropriate; serving as a member of the Libraries' senior administrative team and contributing to strategic planning, program development and evaluation, budget formulation, and allocation of resources in support of the Libraries' mission, specifically as it relates to collections and information resources. Qualifications: Demonstrated experience with or knowledge of collections, information resources, institutional repositories, and resource sharing; substantial library experience in progressively more responsible positions; demonstrated knowledge of trends in scholarly communication, collection and information resource development, and resource sharing issues; demonstrated leadership to effect change in a challenging and complex information environment, with vision, creativity and innovation; management style that is inclusive and empowers others to excel; effective supervisory and team building experience; demonstrated initiatives in program development; demonstrated successful experience in working in a collaborative and collegial research library environment; strong analytical and decision making skills; demonstrated knowledge of the application of information technology in relevant areas; experience with major automated systems; superior interpersonal skills; and experience in effective planning and budgeting for collections and information resources in a complex library environment; demonstrated commitment to diversity; experience with consortia planning for collection development. Master's degree in library/information science from an ALA accredited program, with relevant experience. Second graduate degree (doctorate degree preferred) in a subject discipline relevant to Purdue is highly desirable. Appointment at Assistant Dean or Associate Dean dependent upon experience and publication record. Associate Dean must meet requirements for appointment at the rank of associate or full professor. As a member of the Libraries faculty must meet Purdue requirements for promotion and tenure. Salary & Benefits: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
