You'll find a special subscription offer at http://chronicle.com/4free/?ej _________________________________________________________________ - The text of the job listing is below - Unix Systems Coordinator -- Washington University in St. Louis -- Missouri Washington University Libraries in St. Louis, MO seek a knowledgeable and flexible individual for the position of Unix Systems Coordinator. The Unix Systems Coordinator is a member of a technology services team responsible for the operation, maintenance, and support of information systems supporting the Washington University Libraries and patrons both on and off campus. Serves as a liaison for Unix/Linux software, open source and proprietary, with other library departments and units for the resolution of system problems, identification and analysis of new services and products, and implementation of existing technology. Administers and maintains library servers including evaluation of new software and hardware releases, assists in management of information systems security, and recommends changes as necessary. Coordinates with Network Technology Services, Computing Facilities, other library staff, and other University department technology staffs regarding network and computer issues. Prepares appropriate documentation for proposed projects, existing or new procedures, and customer support issues. Performs general network administration, backup operations, and user management tasks including monitoring and managing system performance. Remains current with computing trends and products through individual research, training, and seminars and personal evaluation of new products. Some after hours and weekend work may be required including participation in the department on-call rotation. May assist in the installation and support of personal computers and related equipment and software. May serve as team leader in the absence of the unit supervisor. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or related field with a minimum of 2 years of Unix/Linux administration experience. (Currently installed systems include Solaris and Linux servers, plus several Mac OS/10 desktops.) Working knowledge of server clustering. Experience working with customers in the implementation and maintenance of Unix-based, open source and proprietary software. Working knowledge of database management systems, storage area networking, and backup/recovery operations. Strong trouble-shooting skills and a demonstrated ability to solve problems. Experience in developing and editing "Make" files in a Unix/Linux environment. PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Proficiency in developing and writing batch and script files in support of customer and systems administration needs. Knowledge of Windows operating system (Windows XP Pro desktop, Windows Server 2003 server). Working knowledge of MS SQL Server, Oracle, and MySQL. Working knowledge of LDAP and integration of Unix/Linux authentication with Microsoft Active Directory. Familiarity with federated authentication/authorization technology including Shibboleth. Effective communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of staff; ability to work productively in teams; Unix/Linux system administration skills.
