BLACKWELL LIBRARY
Head of Public Services--Library

POSITION:  Salisbury University's Blackwell Library seeks a leader who
embraces change, cultivates an environment of mutual respect, and develops
teams capable of the detailed planning and analysis that effect meaningful
change. The Head of Public Services has direct responsibility for managing
all aspects of Access Services, provides supervisory guidance to Research
Services, and works collegially with the Dean to develop organizational
strength and agility. 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:  Provide creative, skilled leadership and management
for all aspects of public services including interlibrary loan,
circulation/reserves, face-to-face and remote research and access
services, collection development and integration of information literacy
into the curriculum; establish bridges between public service units; and
collaborate with the Dean of Libraries to set policy and plan the
library's future. The position reports to the Dean of Libraries.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:  M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited program, a
minimum of five years of progressively responsible academic library
experience; knowledge of ILIAD, Ariel, OCLC resource sharing and Microsoft
applications; knowledge of best practices in teaching and current trends in
proactive public services; knowledge of print and online reference
resources; familiarity with course management systems; sound grasp of
copyright law; basic knowledge of assessment; sufficient technological
grasp of systems, including hardware and software, to manage e-services;
strong organizational, supervisory, and administrative skills; excellent
written and oral communication and web skills; an ability to plan, analyze
workflow, and make decisions; and an ability to listen, laugh, collaborate
effectively, and cultivate an environment of mutual respect. Candidates
are expected to contribute to the University's values of and commitment to
student centeredness, academic excellence, and diversity.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:  Experience with Aleph online system,
grants, facilities planning and assessment and second Master's degree
desirable.
APPOINTMENT, RANK AND SALARY:  This is a senior library faculty
position on a permanent status track with excellent benefits and salary
commensurate with experience.
