Executive Director --  Georgetown University --  Multiple locations
 

Description:  The Executive Director of the Legal Information
Preservation Alliance (LIPA) is a new position created to lead the
currently informal organization into a more formal structure and to
develop programs to fulfill the objectives of the alliance in the area of
preservation of print and born digital legal knowledge.  The programs of
the organization are expected to include, among others, education and
training, communication, project development, and grant development.  The
position, in consultation with the Executive Board, will manage the
day-to-day operations of the Alliance.  The Director will be the most
visible and accessible representative of the Alliance, and will serve as
the primary point of contact for members, consultants, vendors and others.
At least initially, the position is expected to be a half time job, but as
funding and programs develop over the next  24 months it is expected to
evolve into a full-time position.
Responsibilities:
·Aspirational:
Provide vision and leadership in furthering the Alliance's mission and
strategic plan.

 is the best statement of the current goals of the Alliance.
Monitor the field to stay abreast of new technologies and/or programs
to achieve LIPA's goals.
Increase participation by LIPA in existing  preservation programs when it
is clear that LIPA objectives can be fulfilled by participation in larger
programs rather than creating ones of our own. 
Develop programs to fulfill LIPA's goals 
 
·Practical:
Administer and provide direction for all LIPA office activities including
personnel, financial and legal matters and requirements.
Develop a long-term program to make LIPA as self-sufficient as possible,
including an equitable dues program, grant and gift identification, grant
writing, etc.
Shape the ultimate permanent structure of LIPA as the Alliance grows and
takes on more substance.
Develop the Consortium budget and monitor expenditures; prepare reports
and analyses as necessary for the Board of Directors and its Executive
Committee.
Draft, negotiate, and monitor vendor and/or consultant contracts as
authorized.
Work closely and cooperatively with standing and ad hoc committees of
LIPA; assess and address their concerns, activities and developments;
provide general direction as they carry out their charges; provide
frequent updates on the status of the Alliance activities and
developments; and serve as a liaison between them and the Executive Board.
Communicate and promote LIPA's goals and activities in the field beyond
the membership to professional organizations, other consortia, vendors,
independent contractors, consultants, granting agencies and the media. 
Manage and maintain the AALL/LIPA Web site.
Qualifications: 
Required: Commitment to LIPA's goals; strong communication skills;
ability to work independently; masters in library and information science,
computer engineering or similar degree.
Highly desirable:  Knowledge of legal information materials;
preservation experience, particularly with digitally born materials;
experience with consortia or non-profit organizations; grant-writing
experience 
Salary: $45,000.  As a part time position benefits are not included.
