Students choose from five different undergraduate degrees (B.A., B.S., B.B.A., B.M., and B.F.A.) and courses of study leading to more than 25 majors and 35 minors. Many students complete undergraduate research, participate in internships and service learning projects and perform volunteer service. Our strong international education programs offer a full range of study abroad experiences.Currently we have approximately 1500 students from 45 states and seven foreign countries, instructed by more than 200 full and part-time faculty members. Our 18,000 living alumnae include three current members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Located in north central Indiana (90 miles east of Chicago, 140 miles north of Indianapolis, and 220 miles southwest of Detroit), the South Bend community has a diverse population of 107,000 with more that 135,000 in the greater metropolitan area. The area has five additional major colleges and universities, including the University of Notre Dame and Holy Cross College, both of which are within walking distance of the Saint Mary's campus. The College recently initiated construction of a $16.5 million, state-of-the-art academic building and is in the beginning stages of reviewing its general education program in order to facilitate a greater number of interdisciplinary collaborations. Saint Mary's College remains committed to fulfilling its educational mission as a Catholic women's college dedicated to developing liberally educated women who are prepared to respond to the complex needs and challenges of the contemporary world.Funding for research/scholarship and course - load reductions are available for exceptional new tenure-track faculty. We are seeking excellent candidates as Assistant Professors to begin August 2006 as tenure-track faculty in:* English: A specialization in teaching fiction writing, modern and contemporary literature courses; additional capabilities in American ethnic literatures, such as African-American literature, Latino/a-American literature, and Asian-American literature is desirable.* Mathematics: The primary responsibility is in mathematics education to prepare our education majors/ minors to teach K-12 mathematics; requires a degree in mathematics and interest in education or a degree in mathematics education with graduate coursework in mathematics.* Modern Language-Spanish: A specialization in Medieval and Golden Age Peninsular literature and possess a native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English with secondary teaching field in: Latin America, Business or Medical Professions Spanish, or third language fluency.* Psychology: In either of two areas of psychology; Developmental (subspecialty in language development/ disorders, lifespan/adult development, or aging) or Social psychology (sub specialties might include cross-cultural, intercultural or race and racism).* Reference Librarian/Instruction Coordinator: Requires experience in teaching or library instruction in an academic library.Saint Mary's College is also seeking excellent candidates for two fellowship positions supported by the Center for Women's Intercultural Leadership (CWIL). CWIL fosters the intercultural knowledge and competence critical to educating the next generation of women leaders; promoting intercultural engagement across the Saint Mary's campus, and connecting faculty and students with communities at the local, state, national and global levels. These positions have three general types of responsibilities 1) research; 2) teaching courses for a specific department that are related to cultural or women's leadership issues; 3) assisting the Center and/or the department in its programmatic and community activities. We are seeking one year (possible renewal for a second year) fellowships to begin August 2006 as joint appointments in the following academic departments.Faculty Fellows in:* Biology/Environmental Science: requires a broadly-trained ecologist/environmental biologist to teach Environmental Science, an Earth Charter seminar and an intercultural studies course focusing on environmental quality or sustainable development.* Humanistic Studies: scholar of Comparative Cultures or Interdisciplinary Studies from the fields of literature, art history, or history, with a specialization in non-Western texts and traditions and their relation to women who will teach one or more courses related to women in intercultural contexts.
