Pharmacy/Science Librarian --  Drake University -- Iowa
 

Pharmacy/Science Librarian
Drake and Cowles Library:  Cowles Library seeks to recruit an
individual to join the library faculty and serve as Pharmacy/Science
Librarian.  Drake University is a comprehensive, selective university with
an innovative curriculum "distinguished by collaborative learning
among students, faculty, and staff and by the integration of the liberal
arts and sciences with professional preparation."  Information
Literacy is a core outcome of the Drake curriculum, with the library
playing a major role through its services, evolving program of
instruction, and knowledge management initiatives.  The
Pharmacy/Science Librarian will maintain a strong collaboration with
the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and science programs in the
College of Arts and Sciences, leading to advances in the integration of
information resources into the instructional and research programs.  This
individual will be a part of the Digital Library and Teaching Unit and
will be able to call upon a broad range of support and resources for
innovative applications of technology and program development. 
Responsibilities:  Serve as the primary librarian for the development,
coordination, and delivery of specialized services to the College of
Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and the science programs of the College of
Arts and Sciences.  Sustain a broad and detailed understanding of pharmacy
and science resources (print and electronic); assess, develop, and refine
the library collection in these areas in collaboration with the
Coordinator of Collection Development.  Provide training and awareness of
science resources for the pharmacy, science and library faculty; partner
with the library marketing program to promote library services and
resources to students. Teach one or more information proficiency courses
in pharmacy and the sciences. Collaborate with the Library Web Developer
to insure the effective integration and availability of pharmacy and
science resources. Advance the integration of student and faculty research
into the Drake digital repository.  Provide specialized reference and
consultation services.  
 
Required:  ALA accredited Masters Degree in Library Science and an
undergraduate degree in natural or physical sciences; demonstrated
teaching ability, familiarity with science and health print and electronic
reference sources, a strong commitment to service, excellent communication
skills, the ability to work as a team member.  Desired: Advanced
degree in natural or physical sciences and teaching experience on the
post-secondary level.
 
Salary/Rank:  Faculty (12 month) tenure-track appointment.  Salary
range is competitive, based on experience, beginning in the mid '40's.
