Reference Librarian/Education Liaison

 

Hunter Library at Western Carolina University is seeking applications for a 12-month, tenure-track position. This position reports to the Head of Reference.  Main duties include:

 

  • promotion of library services to faculty and students in the College of Education and Allied Professions
  • general reference service (some weekend and evening hours)
  • information literacy instruction
  • collection development for 10+ programs in the College of Education and Allied Professions, children’s literature, and the Curriculum Materials Center
  • collaboration in addressing library and network-wide issues

 

Qualifications

 

Required

  • MLS from an ALA-accredited program
  • excellent communication skills
  • knowledge of current issues and trends in teacher/school administrator education
  • at least 3 years of recent reference experience
  • academic coursework in education OR experience in a K-12 environment OR experience as the library’s liaison to a university education department or college

 

Preferred

  • experience using online course management software
  • experience with distance education
  • demonstrated ability to work effectively with teaching faculty and students

 

Salary and Benefits

 

  • salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications. Minimum salary is $45,000.
  • 24 days of vacation leave annually.

Location

 

Western Carolina University is located in the scenic Appalachian mountain ranges at Cullowhee, North Carolina. The university consists of the main campus in Cullowhee and resident credit centers in Asheville and Cherokee. A faculty of about 433 serves a student body of around 8,665 in resident-credit and extension classes. The Cullowhee campus is in a valley between the Blue Ridge and Great Smoky mountains, fifty-two miles west of Asheville and seven miles south of Sylva on North Carolina Highway 107.
