Librarian/Education Liaison
Hunter Library at Western Carolina
University is seeking
applications for a 12-month, tenure-track position. This position reports to
the Head of Reference. Main duties include:
- promotion
of library services to faculty and students in the College of Education
and Allied Professions
- general
reference service (some weekend and evening hours)
- information
literacy instruction
- collection
development for 10+ programs in the College
of Education and Allied
Professions, children’s literature, and the Curriculum Materials
Center
- collaboration
in addressing library and network-wide issues
Qualifications
Required
- MLS
from an ALA-accredited program
- excellent
communication skills
- knowledge
of current issues and trends in teacher/school administrator education
- at
least 3 years of recent reference experience
- academic
coursework in education OR experience in a K-12 environment OR experience
as the library’s liaison to a university education department or
college
Preferred
- experience
using online course management software
- experience
with distance education
- demonstrated
ability to work effectively with teaching faculty and students
Salary and Benefits
- salary
and rank are commensurate with qualifications. Minimum salary is $45,000.

The College of Education and Allied Professions offers bachelors,
masters, and doctoral degrees with some programs offered online and others in Asheville and Cherokee.
The College has been honored with the 2006 Distinguished Program in Teacher

Christa McAuliffe Excellence in Teacher Education Award from the American

is located in the scenic Appalachian mountain ranges at Cullowhee, North Carolina.
The university consists of the main campus in Cullowhee and resident credit
centers in Asheville
and Cherokee. A faculty of about 433 serves a student body of around 8,665 in
resident-credit and extension classes. The Cullowhee campus is in a valley
between the Blue Ridge and Great Smoky mountains, fifty-two miles west of Asheville and seven miles
south of Sylva on North Carolina Highway 107. The location at the southern end
of Cullowhee valley in the heart of the Tuckasegee River basin
gives it an unusually attractive setting. The campus consists of about 600
acres, including beautifully wooded areas and modern academic, student
residence, recreation, and athletic facilities.
There is airline service to Asheville,
a university bus service between Sylva and Cullowhee, and private taxi service.
The Blue Ridge Parkway,
Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Cherokee Indian Reservation, Fontana Lake, and numerous resort areas offer
fishing, golf, hiking, hunting, skiing, water sports, and other recreational
opportunities nearby.
