Requirements:    RESPONSIBILITIES: Manages the development of research products and services to meet the emerging needs of Libraries users and staff; manages ongoing research systems and projects; develops implementation guidelines, quality control procedures, and documentation for projects; identifies new research opportunities to support library initiatives and collaborates with appropriate faculty and groups on campus to undertake information and learning technology-related projects; provides leadership and organizational expertise in technology acquisition and development; collaborates with data producers and repository contributors (at local and national levels) to develop cost-effective and efficient strategies for managing information; maintains awareness of academic and industry wide trends in information management, data mining, and searching technologies; coordinates the development of web services; initiates research proposals for funding; and promote the University Libraries vision of digital technology initiatives throughout the library and campus; maintains unit focus on goals, priorities and programs consistent with the University Libraries mission and strategic initiatives; supervises Research and Development staff members; fosters creative inquiry and analysis to carry out research projects related to data and dataset mining, searching, and preservation applications; and participates in Libraries coordinators meetings and planning sessions.
This Coordinator position serves as a member of the Libraries Planning Group with responsibility for both influencing and promoting the Libraries strategic plan and its implementation. A Coordinator is expected to play the dual role of advocate for the service area and the Library goals and objectives. This includes fostering active open communication, between the administration, division, and unit, and encouraging collaboration beyond the service area.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Master's or PhD degree in library science (ALA-accredited) , information management, computer science or related field; work experience with a minimum of five years experience as an information technology provider in an academic setting; demonstrated ability to manage and oversee complex projects in a team environment and to prioritize work in alignment with the service goals of the organization; demonstrated knowledge of issues and trends in data management, and applications for gaining and managing digital library projects and resources; demonstrated experience working with a range of applications using current and evolving metadata standards and associated technologies; experience in supervision; excellent analytic and problem-solving skills; experience with heterogeneous environment of operating systems; excellent communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work independently as well as within a team environment and with diverse groups of faculty; and the ability to meet tenure and promotion criteria. Desired: Experience in a range of data management activities, using a variety of software and database tools; proficiency with XML and metadata manipulation, crosswalks, validation, harvesting tools and server management; experience with LINUX, Red Hat and Windows; knowledge of the .NET development framework.
