LIBRARY DIRECTOR, FLORENCE
COUNTY (S.C.) LIBRARY
The Trustees of the
Florence County Library are seeking applicants for the position of Director of
the Florence County Library System. Under limited direction of the Board, the
successful candidate will manage and lead the operations of a library system
with a main and five branch locations and a bookmobile/outreach program. Fast
growing Florence
County
in South Carolina's
beautiful Pee Dee
region has major industries including health care, education, and
manufacturing. The main library’s new headquarters building in Florence (pop. 35,000) is within easy driving
of Myrtle Beach,
Columbia, and Charleston.
The library is currently in an active branch replacement program.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong public service commitment;
demonstrated and proven abilities in all aspects of library administration and
management including fiscal planning and budget preparation, collection development,
the evaluation and improvement of library services, library facilities and space planning, and personnel
supervision; must have experience in the implementation of computer technology
in public libraries or similar environments; must be progressive,
energetic, and creative, with strong interpersonal and analytical abilities;
must be able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. The Director
will be responsible for setting the direction of the library system and for
maintaining positive working relationships with the Library Board, local and
county government officials, the Friends’ organization, varied sectors of
the community, state and regional library organizations and associations, and
for promoting a user-centered
library culture. Qualifications: MLIS/ALA, five+ years of successful public library
management experience in a medium or large public library, or an
equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must be eligible to obtain
a Professional Librarian Certificate by the S. C. State Library.
