Information Systems Librarian/Lecturer

 

Randall Library, UNCW.  The University of North Carolina Wilmington is a member institution of the University of North Carolina, and is nationally recognized for its marine sciences teaching and research programs, and for its strengths in arts and sciences, business, education, and nursing.  The University is situated on a beautiful arboretum campus located in an historic port city within five miles of the Atlantic Ocean.  The University enrolls more than 12,000 students.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  This entry level faculty position is an opportunity for a knowledgeable and energetic librarian with a strong technical background and commitment to service to participate in the development, installation, operation, and maintenance of Randall Library's highly integrated computing resources and services, including server and PC hardware/software maintenance.  The successful candidate will assist in managing Randall Library’s Millennium integrated library system; develop and maintain a high level of functionality, usability, and design structure of the library web site; ensure proper access to the library's electronic resources; assist other librarians and library staff in the use of electronic resources; develop digital technology applications; provide technical support for new projects; develop and provide regular training sessions to enhance the library faculty’s and staff’s technological skills; keep abreast of emerging technologies and share that knowledge with library colleagues; participate in library reference services; serve as liaison to the library's Public Services Department; plan and implement new technologies to support the Library's mission; serve on library and university committees; establish a career path consistent with the stated Performance Criteria for Library Faculty (http://library.uncw.edu/web/policies/performance.html), including scholarship and service.  UNCW Library faculty engage in scholarship resulting in publication, conference presentation, and other evidence of scholarly activity.  This position reports to the Associate University Librarian for Computing Services.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS:  MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited program, preferably with 1 or more years of applicable experience working with applications associated with library systems and/or information technology in an academic library.  Proven ability to work and communicate effectively, as an individual and as a team member, with a diverse group of people (library personnel, administrators, faculty, vendors, campus information technology services staff, and library users).  Ability to clearly document projects and procedures.  Knowledge and understanding of web site technologies, with in-depth knowledge of one or more web markup or scripting languages (i.e., HTML, XML, CSS, Javascript, Perl, etc.), web management software (Dreamweaver), and graphics programs such as Photoshop.  Experience with Microsoft Office products.  Familiarity with library-related products such as Innovative Interfaces online library system, OCLC Connexion, ILLiad, Docutek's E-Res, and Pearl Echo.  Knowledge of bibliographic record structures (including metadata standards) and core library operations such as circulation, cataloging, acquisitions, serials, etc.  Physical ability to move about through a two-floor building, to handle the tools of the trade, and to lift/move computers and associated peripheral equipment.

 

SALARY & BENEFITS:   Salary $41,250 or commensurate with the labor market for this position.
