Reference Librarian --  University of South Carolina at Columbia -- South
Carolina
 

Library: Thomas Cooper Library, the University of South Carolina,
Columbia. The library seeks a dynamic librarian who will provide
information service to students and faculty with emphasis on the sciences.
Duties include providing service at a busy reference desk, with some
evenings and weekends; conducting library instruction sessions for the
sciences and general library tours; assisting patrons with print and
electronic reference resources; and working closely with faculty and
students in the science academic departments to develop the library's
collections and services. The University of South Carolina enrolls
approximately 17,000 undergraduate students and 8,000 graduate students on
the Columbia campus.  The Thomas Cooper Library has 3.2 million volumes and
over 17,000 current serials and electronic resources.  The Library is a
member of SOLINET, OCLC, the Association of Research Libraries and the
Center for Research Libraries. Qualifications Required: ALA accredited
MLS; knowledge of science and technology resources; effective oral and
written communication skills; ability to work successfully with colleagues
and students; ability to teach effectively; familiarity with database and
Internet search strategies; academic background in the sciences,
engineering or mathematics, or substantial science reference desk
experience.  Desirable: academic reference desk experience, computer
literacy/proficiency, and facility in a foreign language. Salary
dependent on qualifications and experience, beginning at $34,000. Faculty
status, tenure-track.  Benefits include medical, dental, state retirement
