Dean, School of Library and Information Science --  Catholic University of
America -- D.C.
 

The Catholic University of America (CUA) invites applications for the
position of dean of the School of Library and Information Science (SLIS). 
This ALA-accredited school, located in the nation's capital, enrolls full
time and part time students on the Washington, DC campus, at the Library
of Congress, and at three sites in Virginia.  SLIS offers graduate
programs, including a master's degree and post-master's certificate in
library and information science, as well as joint degrees with law,
musicology, history, English, biology, and religious studies.
 
The SLIS faculty represents a unique blend of research, teaching and
professional expertise, including backgrounds in library and information
science, computer science, as well as the arts and humanities.  Building
on a 60-year tradition of LIS education, the faculty offers an innovative
approach to teaching and learning that prepares students for professional
leadership in diverse and emerging information management environments. 
By integrating technology throughout the curriculum, providing excellent
teaching, and supporting faculty research, we advance theory and practice
in the management of information, cultural heritage materials, and
scholarly resources to serve the needs of individuals, organizations, and
society as a whole. 
The school seeks a dean with the commitment and vision to lead the school
through a period of expansion in enrollments and programs. Applicants
should have a record of academic achievement commensurate with a senior
level faculty appointment and significant administrative experience. The
dean administers and coordinates the activities of the school and reports
to the Provost; is a member of the Deans' Conference; provides leadership
in teaching and research; articulates the mission of the school to
internal and external constituencies; maintains strong liaisons with a
wide range of campus and professional constituencies; and actively engages
in fund raising and grant seeking activities to support students, faculty,
and programs.
Salary is competitive.  Applications will be reviewed beginning on
December 1, 2006. The appointment will be effective on or about July 1,
