University of the Incarnate Word
Dean of Library Services

The University of the Incarnate Word seeks a dynamic and innovative leader
who understands the role of academic research libraries in the 21st century
to become the Dean of Library Services. The Dean will be responsible
for: providing visionary leadership for the library; supervising
provision of library services to the UIW community; participating in the
strategic planning and budgeting process, staffing and staff development;
working closely with the University's Chief Information Officer to ensure
current and emerging technologies are fully integrated into library
services; acting as official representative and advocate of the library in
the university, state and regional library communities; promoting public
relations and fundraising; fostering regional and state-wide cooperation
in resource sharing and networking. Qualifications include: MLS or
ALA-accredited degree equivalent; five or more years of library management
experience demonstrating leadership and management skills in an academic
setting; evidence of effective fiscal resource management; excellent
communication and interpersonal skills; the ability to develop a strong
collaborative working environment in the library; and a demonstrated
ability to work effectively with a variety of on- and off-campus
constituencies.
The Dean reports directly to the Vice President for Academic and Student
Affairs, serves on the Deans Council and contributes to the long-range
planning for the university.  The Dean has faculty status, and supervises
a staff of 8 librarians, 7 additional staff, a budget of approximately
$1,300,000.00, and a collection of over 178,000 books and bound
periodicals. 
The University of the Incarnate Word is a Catholic institution with a deep

South Texas and abroad.  It is located in the heart of San Antonio and is
affiliated with the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word.  We seek
