Library: Illinois Wesleyan University, University Librarian, The Ames
Library. The Illinois Wesleyan University Library invites applications for
the position of University Librarian, a tenure track, faculty position
beginning in August 2007.  IWU is a nationally ranked, fully accredited
undergraduate university with 2100 students that strives to provide the
highest quality liberal arts education. The Ames Library provides a
learning environment that is conducive to interaction, consultation,
study, and reflection, dedicated to serving the scholarly needs of the
Illinois Wesleyan University community. Opened in 2002, the state-of-the
art library facility comprises 103,000 square feet on five levels, with a
diverse collection of approximately 400,000 volumes. The Thorpe Digital
Center supports campus-wide digital resources and services, providing
expert assistance with projects integrating video, audio, image and
textual content. The Library personnel consists of nine full-time
professional librarians and twelve full-time support staff.
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Provost and Dean of the Faculty,
the University Librarian: leads the library in planning, developing,
and coordinating library resources and services to achieve strategic
initiatives; represents and sponsors library interests within the broader
institutional community; plans and manages the library's operating and
materials budgets; participates in a variety of services including
collection development, library instruction and reference assistance;
participates in regional and national professional activities; promotes
the professional development of library faculty and staff. Required
qualifications: MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program; 5 or more
years of progressive administrative experience; commitment to the values
and mission of an undergraduate liberal arts education; thorough knowledge
of library trends, issues and operations; excellent written and oral
communication skills; strong public service ethic; proven evidence of
creative leadership and consensus building; evidence of scholarly
achievement and professional service. Desirable qualifications: strong
liberal arts background; administrative experience in an academic setting;
an additional advanced degree. Appointment: Twelve-month appointment;
faculty rank and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience;
