NATIONAL INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS ACCESS CENTER MANAGER

* This position will remain open until filled.

 Under the direct supervision of the Director of the Resource Services and the National Instructional Materials Access Center, this hands-on manager is responsible for daily management of the Access Center.  The successful candidate will play a significant role in developing operational policies and procedures, as well as provide or facilitate significant interaction with publishers, technology vendors and clients/users.

 
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


1.  Advise the Director of Resource Services on the application of current and emerging metadata schema to facilitate access to NIMAS (National Instructional Materials Access System) files.  Train Access Center staff and others on metadata creation, management, and standards.  Establish cataloging, quality control, and technical/customer support policies and procedures in consultation with the Director of Resource Services.

2.Daily supervise the Access Center staff, with a projected staff size of four to ten employees.  Supervisory responsibilities to consist of establishing Access Center goals, monitoring statistics (productivity), and developing work plans for individual staff members. 

3.Set up and monitor user and publisher accounts; develop, perform and oversee established quality control practices; catalog files and assist in providing technical/customer support.  

4.Work closely with vendor staff to help improve and maintain NIMAC systems, which includes performing user-testing of key system components.

5.Represent NIMAC at national conferences, professional and association meetings, as well provide NIMAC related in-service materials and training opportunities on a limited basis.

6.Perform additional but related duties as assigned, e.g., assisting the Director in the selection and hiring of Access Center staff.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


1.      Master’s in Library and Information Science required.

2.      Three to five years of progressively responsible database experience that must include working knowledge of US MARC, metadata and web public access.

3.      Must have strong, demonstrated oral and written communication skills.

4.      Must be a self-starter with highly developed project and time management skills.

5.      Strong interpersonal skills a must, including experience dealing with customers, client and library patrons with tact and diplomacy.

6.      Must be able to begin full-time work by Monday, November 6, 2006. *

7.      Must be able to travel as required.

 
COMPENSATION:


Pay Grade:               16                    Minimum:     $17.31            Midpoint:    $21.28

Salary within above pay grade is negotiable based on education and experience.
