Position: Student Library Assistant Position - Digitization

 

Department: Special Collections Library, Volunteer Voices Project

 

Hours: 10-15 hours per week; schedule is negotiable within our business hours (9:00-5:30, Monday-Friday).

 

Required Qualifications:  UT student (undergraduate or graduate) in liberal arts or information science. Detail oriented. Computer proficient. Excellent communication skills. Must be able to work independently.

 

Preferred: Previous library work experience. Prior experience using a flatbed scanner.  Interest in Tennessee history, manuscripts, or librarianship. Familiarity with OAI, MODS, TEI, or other forms of metadata. Prior experience handling rare and fragile materials. Ability to read 19th century handwriting.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:  

·        Scan selected Special Collections materials, including letters, diaries, photographs, and other historic items

·        Create a MODS and TEI record for each item scanned. In many cases, this will involve the creation of a transcription of the item being handled

·        Create project-specific informational brochures, bookmarks, etc.

·        Other duties as assigned
