Position: Student Library Assistant Position - Digitization

 

Department: Special Collections Library, Volunteer Voices Project

 

Hours: 10-15 hours per week; schedule is negotiable within our business hours (9:00-5:30, Monday-Friday).

 

Required Qualifications:  UT student (undergraduate or graduate) in liberal arts or information science. Detail oriented. Computer proficient. Excellent communication skills. Must be able to work independently.

 

Preferred: Previous library work experience. Prior experience using a flatbed scanner.  Interest in Tennessee history, manuscripts, or librarianship. Familiarity with OAI, MODS, TEI, or other forms of metadata. Prior experience handling rare and fragile materials. Ability to read 19^th century handwriting.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:  

·        Scan selected Special Collections materials, including letters, diaries, photographs, and other historic items

·        Create a MODS and TEI record for each item scanned. In many cases, this will involve the creation of a transcription of the item being handled

·        Create project-specific informational brochures, bookmarks, etc.

·        Other duties as assigned
