You'll find a special subscription offer at http://chronicle.com/4free/?ej _________________________________________________________________ - The text of the job listing is below - Consumer Health and Outreach Librarian -- Washington University School of Medicine -- Missouri Becker Medical Library, Washington University School of Medicine Consumer Health and Outreach Librarian Summary: The Consumer Health and Outreach librarian will have primary responsibilities for implementing and supporting knowledge management and the use of information technologies for the consumer health programs of Becker Medical Library and the Family Resource Center of St. Louis Children's Hospital. There will be the additional responsibility for implementing and supporting the community outreach programs of the library. The position also includes supporting the library's liaison role with faculty departments and medical school graduate programs, and performing reference, information training and instruction services. This is a full-time, exempt position with excellent benefits package, and reports to the Associate Director for Communication & Outreach. The beginning salary will be within the following range $38,000 - $43,000. Duties and Responsibilities: * Works with the Regional Medical Library (RML) in the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NNLM) to develop a program of activities in fulfillment of Becker Library's contract as a resource library for NNLM. * Works as the consumer health librarian, fulfilling the arrangements between Becker library and the Family Resource Center (FRC) of the St. Louis Children's Hospital (SLCH). * Manages the consumer health outreach program for Becker Library ensuring that the FRC and the selected other community organizations are adequately served. * Develops and provides training in support of consumer health and outreach information programs. * Assist in finding pediatric consumer health information to meet the needs of patients, families and other caregivers. * Establish collaborative relationships with physicians, nurses and other clinicians to provide appropriate materials to meet identified educational needs of patrons. * Participates in the library liaison program, which is the internal outreach that maintains the link between Washington University School of Medicine faculty and the library. * Fulfills other reference services duties as prescribed by Becker Library. Required Minimum Qualifications: * Graduate degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association (ALA) or and equivalent graduate library/information science degree. * Minimum of 2 years' experience in providing information services and instructional programs for community users (including adult and children) and faculty in a technologically advanced library. Preferred: * Experience with the scope and content of consumer health materials - print and electronic. * Experience delivering reference and/or educational services in a health sciences library. * Evidence of ability to work effectively within a service-oriented team environment. * Personality attributes - willingly approaches new contacts, identifies and initiates communication and correspondence, enthusiasm, etc. Application deadline: Position is open until filled.
