Head of Technical Services--Library
POSITION:  Salisbury University's Blackwell Library seeks a leader who
embraces change, cultivates an environment of mutual respect, and develops
teams capable of the detailed planning and analysis that results in
meaningful change. The Head of Technical Services has direct
responsibility for managing all aspects of the library's technical
services, and works collegially with the Dean to develop organizational
strength and agility. 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:  Provide creative leadership and management for all
aspects of technical services including acquisitions, cataloging,
government documents, and serials; oversee management of e-resources;
establish bridges between technical and public service units; take a lead
role in planning and coordinating decisions for consortial development of
a shared online system; and collaborate with the Dean of Libraries to set
policy and plan the library's future. The position reports to the Dean of
Libraries.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:  M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited program, a
minimum of five years of academic library experience, evidence of
supervisory ability, increasingly responsible experience in technical
services, especially serials and cataloging; experience with at least one
ILS, knowledge of OCLC, MARC, AACR2, LC, LCSH, HTML as well as Microsoft
Office applications and FrontPage, good technology and web design skills,
good listening  and oral and written communication skills, flexibility,
sense of humor, open-mindedness, commitment to team work, and an ability
to lead, envision and plan for future directions. 
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:  Experience with Aleph online system,
supervisory experience, XML, assessment background.  
APPOINTMENT, RANK AND SALARY:  This is a senior library faculty
position on a permanent status track with excellent benefits and salary
commensurate with experience.
