Director of Library Services --  Mountain Empire Community College --

Director of Library Services
Mountain Empire Community College invites applications for the position of
Director of Library Services, position number FA025. The Director of
Library Services ensures that the library provides resources and services
to support the educational programs of the college and reports to the Vice
President of Academic and Student Services. The successful candidate will
work with the college faculty to develop and offer bibliographic
instruction programs that produce information-literate students. A major
emphasis of this faculty-rank position will be providing bibliographic
instruction, but the responsibilities will also include managing the
library and supervising a staff of four, preparing an annual plan with
budget recommendations, and identifying improvements needed in the library
facility, as well as equipment needs. The college offers a competitive

provide strategic leadership for the library in carrying out the
educational mission of a dynamic community college in southwest Virginia.
Mountain Empire Community College, one of the Commonwealth of Virginia's
23 comprehensive community colleges, serves the counties of Dickenson,
Lee, Scott, Wise, and the City of Norton. It is located approximately 40
miles from Kingsport, TN, and enrolls over 4,000 students in credit
courses (approximately 2,000 full-time equivalent) and over 3,000 students
in non-credit courses.The qualifications required of candidates are 1) an
MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program, 2) commitment to the community
college mission and philosophy, 3) knowledge of state and national issues
pertaining to the roles of the library in higher education, and 4)
excellent oral and written communication skills. It is preferred that
candidates have 1) academic library experience, 2) experience working with
the Ex Libris integrated library system, and 3) in-depth knowledge of
current computer and instructional technology.Applications must be
