Director of Library and Information Services and Chair of the Department
of Information Science
As Director of the Library, the position reports to the Associate Vice
President for Academic Affairs and has primary administrative
responsibility for overall library administration and long-range planning,
manages and develops library and instructional technology resources,
maintains strong relationships with other campus units, and manages the
library's budget and personnel (9 faculty and 13 support staff). In
addition, this position serves as the liaison with faculty for technology
development and works closely with the Chief Information Officer to
develop programs and policies appropriate for the learning environment of
the University community. The successful candidate will have a clear
vision of the evolving roles of academic libraries, have an understanding
of information technology issues in higher education and be able to
communicate them to others. As Chair of the Department of Information
Science, this position reports to the Dean of the Misher College of Arts
and Sciences and leads a department with campus-wide instructional
responsibilities. Specific duties include managing the department's
faculty, encouraging their professional growth; participating in the
department's teaching, advising, service, scholarship and in the library's
collection development and reference services. This position has an
academic appointment (tenure track or non-tenure track) commensurate with
experience.The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia is located in a
region rich in universities and libraries. The University's Philadelphia
College of Pharmacy is the oldest pharmacy school in the United States and
the library's pharmacy resources are historic and extensive.

accredited institution, previous academic library experience, at least 5
years of administrative experience, excellent interpersonal and
communication skills, and demonstrated leadership in professional
organizations. A science or health science background will strengthen a
