The University
of Tennessee Libraries and The Baker Center are partners in an ambitious effort
to create a vibrant, innovative, much-used research center called the Modern
Political Archives (MPA). The MPA contains materials of political leaders
of Tennessee, major associates of those leaders, and other individuals or groups
who have had a major impact on Tennessee during the modern era.
The Baker
Center seeks an enterprising UT student with the ability to multitask. The
student will assist the Baker Center Archivist in work involving research, and
the arrangement/description of primary sources in the MPA. Continuity of
availability is imperative.
Qualifications: UT
student, 10 hours weekly; be able to climb step ladders, and lift boxes up to
40lbs.; be able to follow precise instructions, and provide careful attention to
detail; excellent writing skills; computer and Internet proficient. Must
be able to work between 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday
Preferred: Graduate
student with an interest in the archival profession, or undergraduate with
demonstrated research experience.
Duties/Responsibilities: Student will be
responsible in assisting the Archivist in processing the materials in the MPA;
inventorying and re-housing archival papers; research and reference requests;
digitizing documents; retrieve and reshelf containers; and a variety of other
assigned projects related to oral history and documentary editing
projects.
