POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT:

 

            The School of Library and Information Studies at the
University of Alabama is taking applications for an exciting
professional vacancy in the School's administration in Tuscaloosa,
Alabama.   The successful applicant for this position will work with
faculty, staff, and students of a growing program in library and
information studies in the College of Communication and Information
Sciences.  The School offers the Master of Library and Information
Studies (MLIS) and the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Book Arts; the
College also offers the PhD with a concentration in information studies.


 

            The Manager, Student and Alumni Services, will work closely
with the Director of the School to develop

            ongoing, lifelong relationships between the School of
Library and Information Studies and its students and alumni. He/she will
provide vital continuity so that students will be well-served while at
SLIS and so that they will be loyal alumni, ready to assist the School
in its efforts to recruit excellent students and to support the
programs.   

 

            This staff member will manage all aspects of student
admission and retention for the MLIS program, the MLIS - Online
program, the off-        campus program, and the Book Arts program,
including supervising the staff that performs clerical tasks
associated with         admissions.  The Manager will provide
communications about         policies, procedures, and opportunities
with enrolled students.  He/she            will oversee alumni
activities, in conjunction with The Library School Association and the
Director. 

 

The MLIS or equivalent, from a program accredited by the American
Library Association, with one year of full-time employment in a library,
university, school, governmental agency or other not-for-profit
organization is required. The successful applicant will be an excellent
writer and speaker and will have knowledge of office productivity and
web development tools. The position requires an understanding of library
education and its relationship to the information professions.
Membership in one or more professional associations is desirable.
