New York University Libraries Metadata Services Librarian

Description:  Plays a leading role in the library's efforts to optimize
resource discovery and delivery by identifying, evaluating, manipulating
and enhancing metadata for integration into information services.
Reporting to the Director of Technical Services, the Metadata Services
Librarian works closely with managers from the cataloging, acquisitions,
information technology services, public services and digital library
departments to develop policies and procedures for handling metadata;
investigates new sources for  
metadata; keeps abreast of new and evolving metadata standards.   
Within Technical services, manages the ILS cataloging profiler, serves
as primary liaison to RLG and OCLC for processing activities, develops
and maintains contracted cataloging services, and coordinates efforts to
maximize effective use of all desktop applications related to technical
services processing.

Qualifications:  MLS from an ALA accredited institution.  Second masters
or the equivalent required for tenure.  A minimum of three years MARC
cataloging experience in a research library and familiarity with other
metadata schemas.  The candidate should be professionally active and
knowledgeable about national and international efforts to maximize
utility of traditional and new forms of metadata.  Additional
requirements are strong written and verbal communication skills,
demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a
complex organization, and a creative, service-oriented approach to
problem solving.

Salary/Benefits:  Faculty status, attractive benefits package including
five weeks annual vacation.  Salary commensurate with experience and
background.
