POSITION DESCRIPTION: 

The Chester Fritz Library at the University of  North Dakota welcomes
applications for the Head of Reference & Research Services position. 
This department head position reports to the Assistant Director of
Libraries and has responsibility for management and administration of
the Reference Department, including six (6) professional librarians. 
The position supervises the Reference & Research Services librarians and
staff; is responsible for management and development of the reference
collection; provides Reference and Research Services at the Reference
Desk that will include some evening and weekend hours; acts as liaison
and bibliographer for specified academic departments; is responsible for
collection development/management for specified subject areas of the
general library collection; and participates in professional activities.


QUALIFICATIONS:  Required: ALA accredited MLS or equivalent, 5 years
successful professional reference experience in an academic or research
library, management and supervisory experience;  Preferred: Second
master's degree and/or Ph.D. degree; progressively responsible
experience in an academic or research library; evidence of successful
leadership, mentoring, team-building, and interpersonal skills; able to
work well independently and in collaborative relationships; strong
public service commitment to improving research services for on-site and
distance users; experience with a variety of library services, including
Reference, Bibliographic Instruction, Liaison work and Collection
Development; excellent oral and written communication skills;
organizational and time-management skills; demonstrated ability to plan
and implement programs and services; demonstrated conventional and
innovative use of library resources and technologies; knowledge of
emerging trends in reference library services; evidence of national
and/or local professional activity.
