POSITION:	Youth Services Coordinator	

LOCATION:	The Library Center 

DUTIES:		See attached job description for essential duties and

SALARY:		Range $ 41,475 - $61,464 annually; plus benefits

This is a full-time position.  Must be available to work any hours the
library is open.  As a condition of employment, work schedules may
change as necessary to best provide user services and to meet the
Library's responsibility to the citizens of Greene County.

college courses or degrees, transcripts must accompany your application.

Job Description



Position:  Youth Services Coordinator
Classification: Librarian V       
Salary Track:  P    $41,475 - $61,464; plus benefits
FLSA Status: Exempt


Essential Functions

*	Collaborative Leadership
*	Effective coordination of system-wide youth services, programs
and staff


Responsibilities 

*	Coordinates system-wide youth services and programs including
organization, implementation, evaluation and modification.
*	Collaborates with Branch Managers, Children's and Young Adult
Staff, Collection Development and other Library Departments including,
but not limited to Outreach, Community Relations, and Human Resources.
*	Assists in budget preparation for youth materials, programs and
supplies.
*	Participates in the selection, training and evaluation of
district staff providing youth services;
*	Identifies ongoing staff training needs and recommends and/or
conducts training to meet those needs.
*	Recommends policies and procedures affecting the delivery of
youth programs and services.
*	Advises Children's Department Managers and Young Adult
Associates.
*	Participates in Collection Development and maintenance of youth
materials.
*	Acts as liaison between Library and community at events
involving children and teens through effective presentations to schools,
civic and community groups, and the media.
*	Represents Library as member of community organizations that
serve children and teens.
*	Responds to customer complaints or concerns regarding youth
materials, programs and services.
*	Prepares monthly reports for Executive Director and Branch
Managers.
*	Serves as Chair of children and Young Adult Librarians'
Committees; serves on other committees.
*	Is an active member of the Administrative Staff reporting to the
Executive Director.
*	Attends work on a regular and dependable basis.
*	Interacts in a professional and respectful manner with district
staff and the public;
*	Performs basic file keeping,clerical activities and other duties
as assigned.





Education/Experience:
*	At least 5 years' progressively responsible experience in
children's/youths' services.
*	MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited university required (will
consider candidate if nearing completion of degree.)    
*	Supervisory experience.      

Skills/Job Knowledge:
*	Excellent communication skills, oral and written.
*	Knowledge of children's and teen literature.
*	Public library resources, programs and services;
*	Fundamental principles and practices of collection development,
reader's advisory, reference, and programming  for youth;
*	Principles and practices of supervision;
*	Computer systems and associated software, integrated library
systems, and the internet.

Abilities:
*	Effectively listen to and respond to staff.
*	Ability to work and interact in a cooperative, pleasant, and
constructive manner with others;
*	Prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, work accurately, and maintain
confidentiality;
*	Use initiative, problem solving skills, and judgment.
*	Seek out new methods and principles and be willing to
incorporate them into existing practices.
	
Contact
*	Regular, daily public contact with adults, teens and children.
*	Works closely with other department personnel.
*	Routine telephone and written contact with other departments,
branches, and the public.

Supervision
*	Supervised by Executive Director.

Physical Demands
*	Performs bending, squatting, kneeling and reaching from floor
level to 6 feet in height.
*	Physical exertion is required to lift library materials weighing
up to 20 lbs.
*	Hearing, speaking, and listening to individuals in person and by
telephone; reading materials in print and electronic format; using a
keyboard, mouse and viewing a computer monitor.

Working Environment
Primarily indoors in an office environment while sitting at a desk or
computer terminal for extended periods of time.  Travel to a variety of
locations to perform work and/or attend meetings is required.  Meeting
deadlines, frequent interruptions, and working under moderate levels of
stress are illustrative of the mental requirements of the positions.
