The position's primary goal is to ensure consistent and integrated access to licensed electronic resources in a technology-intensive learning environment. As a member of Content, Access and Delivery Services (CADS), the Librarian assists in evaluating and strengthening access to electronic resources within the NAU course management system and through various other University and Library interfaces. The Librarian participates in the refinement and implementation of procedures related to licensed electronic resources procurement and management. As a member of a Library resource specialist team, the Librarian also serves as a liaison to one of the University colleges. NAU values service excellence in a learner-centered environment. The Cline Library focuses on all students, faculty, and staff regardless of their locations and provides extraordinary service that facilitates 24/7 completion of course assignments and scholarship. We seek personnel who are committed to the Library's mission and who are flexible and reliable in an atmosphere of rapid change. * Supports the use, management, and procurement of electronic resources. The funds spent on electronic resources comprise 45% of the Library acquisitions budget with the number of full text serial titles being over 25,000, the number of databases exceeding 100, and the number of online books at more than 40,000. Content Access and Delivery Services (CADS) personnel work together as a team in developing and strategically directing the evolution of practices needed to expand and manage electronic resources. The continuous development of new skills is acknowledged and desired due to the ongoing changes in procurement models, electronic product features, and delivery methods. CADS also develops and maintains consortium relationships with other Universities in order to maximize content availability for learners and scholars. * The Librarian reports to the Coordinator, but is expected to communicate regularly and directly with others in the Library, in the University, and at other institutions. Assists and may supervise others in the collaborative planning, implementation, and documentation of operational changes. Participates in vendor/publisher communications for the purpose of expediting and sustaining access to electronic resources. Facilitates the troubleshooting of access problems. Monitors and manipulates data and statistics to enable better the analysis of electronic resource use patterns. As offered by electronic resource developers and distributors, initiates both the implementation and the promotion of new features that will enhance user success in finding and using digital content. Assists in positioning electronic resources in ways that integrate with current University tools and interfaces. Continuously scans the dynamic information technology environment for new opportunities and strategies that support NAU students and faculty. * As a Resource Specialist, supports student learning outcomes by working directly with students and faculty. Approximately 20% of effort is dedicated to Resource Specialist work. In the context of specific web-based and web-enhanced courses; works with the faculty to identify relevant Library resources, tools, and services; enhance course content; and develop class assignments. Creatively engages course-enrolled students who are using Library services and resources to complete their assignments. Based on observation and participation, provides feedback to faculty that will inform ongoing instructional design. Shares insights and recommendations about WebCT Vista and other interfaces with appropriate Library and University personnel. * Consistently achieves high levels of personal productivity. Uses strong analytical, interpretive, and time management skills to plan with purpose around initiatives, encourage organizational effectiveness, sustain solution-centered approaches, and consistently achieve positive outcomes. Demonstrates efficiency in pursuing goals, accomplishing work assignments, and managing workload. Skillfully uses the integrated library system, course management software, productivity software, the Internet, and other technologies to accomplish objectives. Demonstrates interest in optimizing technology to automate tasks and share information. * Clearly understands, articulates, and assists in accomplishing the missions and goals of the University and the Library. Is guided by the NAU Strategic Plan and the Library Operating Plan when shaping project plans and initiatives; setting individual and team objectives; accomplishing daily work; and evaluating service, personal development, and training opportunities. * When performing as a supervisor and project manager, demonstrates abilities to: positively coach others in the planning and the execution of creative solutions; guide the group process through brainstorming and concept formulation; set clear goals, achievable objectives, intelligent strategies, and reasonable performance measures; adhere to schedules and timelines; judiciously deploy resources (especially staff time and intellectual capital); and stand accountable for results. * Successfully directs one's formal and informal learning by assessing skills and knowledge related to current and anticipated areas of responsibility. Identifies learning opportunities offered within and outside of professional library and higher education organizations. Pursues development and learning which align with Library and University directions. A record of professional development is valued in terms of its relationship to enhanced performance and contributions to the Library's mission. * Identifies and pursues service opportunities that draw upon and demonstrate professional skills and knowledge. A record of professional service is valued in terms of its impact on meeting the obligations and the goals of the University, the Library, local and/or professional communities. * Supervises Library Student Aides, may supervise Classified Staff. Minimum Qualifications: * ALA-accredited graduate degree from a library and information sciences program or an advanced degree in a related field * Excellent problem solving, analytical and organizational skills. * Evidence of high levels of productivity when working independently or in teams, as changing situations require. * Successfully demonstrated leadership skills. * Experience in and strong commitment to outstanding user experiences. * Ability to work successfully with faculty, students, and colleagues in a multicultural learning and working environment. * Demonstrated flexibility in and enjoyment of collaborative endeavors in a project-based environment. * Excellent oral and written communication skills. * Project management experience. * Demonstrated competencies in managing or troubleshooting electronic resources. * Understanding of practices and trends in using licensed electronic resources and other digital content such as open URL access, federated searching, course management systems, and electronic resource management software. Preferred Qualifications: * Experience in working with publishers and vendors of electronic resources. * Experience with inventory tracking, report generating, and database development tools. * Experience in developing and implementing active, effective, and integrated learning experiences for students. * Ability to work with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
