Minimum Training and
Experience: Masters Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA
accredited college or university supplemented by one to two years of library
experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess or
qualify for Professional Certification by the SC State Library. Must possess a
valid state driver’s license.

TITLE: LIBRARIAN II/COMPUTER SYSTEMS LIBRARIAN
COMPUTER
SERVICES DEPARTMENT
GENERAL
STATEMENT OF JOB
Under occasional supervision, must be mentally and
physically capable of overseeing countywide computer systems. Supervises
daily activities of Library Associates and Assistants. Supervises and
assists computer service coordinator in his/her job functions. Reports to
the Library Director.
SPECIFIC
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS
Supervises daily
activities of support staff in the computer services Department; supervisory
duties include instructing; assigning, reviewing and planning work of others; maintaining
standards; coordinating activities; recommending the selection of new
employees; acting on employee problems; and recommending employee
discipline. Reviews the work of subordinates for completeness and
accuracy; offers training, advice and assistance as needed.
Provides back-up to
Computer Service Coordinators system wide.
Trains other staff as
needed in computer troubleshooting techniques.
Participates in
collection development activities for computer collections, including but not
limited to planning and management, materials selection, and the review and
acquisition of materials. Develops special projects and collections.
Prepares grant proposals
for special funding.
Keeps informed of
professional developments in library and information science and computer
technology.
Performs computer data
entry to record and retrieve information and to prepare documents and
correspondence.
Attends professional
meetings and conferences as deemed necessary.
LIBRARIAN
II/ COMPUTER SYSTEMS LIBRARIAN
LIBRARY
Works evenings and
weekends as required.
Weed collections; moves
furniture and equipment as needed.
Receives, reviews,
prepares and/or submits various reports and documents, including job
applications, order slips, book reviews, catalogs, statistical reports,
activity reports, memos, correspondence, etc.
Interacts and
communicates with immediate supervisory, Library Director, co-workers,
subordinates, County department Directors, managers and employees, S. C.
Library Association and other professional association members, professional
peers, S. C. State Library officials and consultants, news media, community
groups, vendors, and the general public.
Operates various types of
office equipment including computer, printer, Ameritech terminal, adding
machine, copier, fax machine, typewriter, microfilm reader/printer, telephone,
audio-visual equipment, etc.
Performs related duties as required. The Florence
County Library System may change assigned work location and schedule of any
position depending upon the needs of the system.
