Sullivan County Public Library is seeking an assistant director.  The
assistant director will:
*       Provide professional and technical assistance to the Director
*       Assist in oversight of day-to-day operations including
supervision of library staff
*       Participate in selection of library materials
*       Coordinate the research, application, implementation and
observation of grants
*       Oversee the operation of the library's automation system,
including but not limited to managing and evaluating routine operations;
planning & implementing improvements and upgrades to system, and
purchasing new hardware & software
*       Oversee selection and usage of library databases
*       Monitor development, performance and maintenance of other
library hardware and systems
*       Preferred qualifications: Master's degree in Library Science &
significant experience in library technology

LIBRARY ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

DEFINITION
*       This is a position which involves extension work, programming
responsibilities, public relations, and assistance to the branch
libraries subject to the general supervision of the Director.
*       The position is located at the Sullivan County Public Library in
Blountville.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
*       Assists the Director in various aspects of library
administration.
*       Assists in public relations.
*       Assists Director in supervision of all library staff: handling
employee concerns and programs, directing work and counseling.
*       Prepares and submits county, regional and state reports.
*       Assists and coordinates summer reading program.
*       Performs supervisory duties by interpreting policy, recommending
equipment/furniture purchases, and providing advice on
services/programs.
*       Assists in collection development using the library's Collection
Development Policy.
*       Answers and attempts to resolve via telephone and in person
branch patron complaints which cannot be resolved by Branch Manager.
*       Assists Branch Managers in planning of space, utilization and
arrangement of materials; will help to develop plans for new branch
space as needed.
*       Maintains contact with all branch locations via telephone, memo,
personal meetings, etc.
*       Supervises daily activities of the system in the absence of the
Director.
*       Attends professional meetings and training sessions sponsored by
the state or regional library. Must complete Public Library Management
Certification program if provided by state.
*       Provides leadership, training, and technical support for the
staff.

individual.
*       Serves on library committees and task groups as requested.
*       Represents the library in programs and groups in the community.

*       Professional leadership and management skills.
*       Knowledge of current trends in library service and technology.
*       Skills in verbal and interpersonal communications.
*       Ability to develop and implement library programs.
*       Ability to organize and satisfactorily complete tasks.
*       Ability to use computers and assist other staff members in
training.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
*       Master's Degree in Library Science or Information Services,
Administration or Management from an accredited graduate program;
professional leadership/management skills, and knowledge of technology
in library science. Graduate of Public Management Program.
*       Valid Driver's License required.
*       Must provide own transportation.
