You'll find a special subscription offer at http://chronicle.com/4free/?ej _________________________________________________________________ - The text of the job listing is below - Reference/Instruction Librarian (This is a ten-month academic year position) -- Raritan Valley Community College -- New Jersey (This is a ten-month academic year position) Department: Library Grade Level: Instructor Reports to: Library Director Salary: Starting salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience per Faculty ContractGeneral Description The Reference/Instruction Librarian leads and coordinates all reference and instructional services in the College Library in close teamwork with the library staff. The librarian satisfies faculty, students and staff information needs and promotes library services. Some evening and weekend hours may be required. Major Duties and Responsibilities · Coordinates the library's instructional program, teaches and provides leadership in promoting information literacy on campus · Performs high quality professional reference desk duty, interviewing and responding to library users, and scheduling the reference desk duty among full-time and adjunct librarians · Develops the reference collection · Acts as liaison to assigned academic departments, meeting with individual faculty, making faculty group presentations, participating in academic department meetings, coordinating library service delivery and promoting library services · Develops the collections in the liaison areas · Manages, directs and supervises adjunct librarians to improved performance and productivity with exemplary personal service and demonstrable collegiality · Creates advanced, interactive and creative Web-based self-learning information literacy tutorials based on the college curriculum · Works cooperatively with all library staff in pursuit of excellent public services · Provides orientations, user instruction tours, presentations, and displays · Contributes to cooperative efforts within VALE and other library cooperatives and professional groups · Provides data and analytic reports about reference and instructional services · Monitors and reports on library professional trends and developments, recommending new and improved services, satisfying student, faculty and staff library needs · Assesses student learning · Performs other duties as assigned Required Qualifications: · An M.L.S. degree or equivalent from a graduate school of library science accredited by the American Library Association. · Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with diverse clientele · Web authoring experience Preferred Qualifications · Supervisory experience · Teaching experience at the college level · Flexibility · Excellent communication skills · Excellent reference and searching skills · Excellent personal and interpersonal skills (energy, creativity, initiative, friendliness, etc.) · Keeps current as a professional librarian _________________________________________________________________ Visit Chronicle Careers at http://chronicle.com/jobs/ _________________________________________________________________ Copyright 2006 by The Chronicle of Higher Education
