Director of Residential Services - Division of Student Affairs

The Division of Student Affairs supports the academic mission by educating students as whole persons, promoting their intellectual, moral, spiritual, and social formation; enhancing students' learning and helping to prepare them for lives of discernment, civic engagement, and professional growth; teaching personal responsibility and respect for people of all faiths, cultures, and beliefs; promoting the health and safety of students and others in the University community. The Office of Residential Living strives to create comfortable, inclusive communities that foster formation and engagement for more than 5,300 undergraduate residential students in 17 residential communities across campus

The Director of Residential Services manages academic and summer housing and conferences for 5400+ bed spaces maximizing occupancy, establishes and interprets policy, develops standards and strategic plan including occupancy, summer programs, manages facilities, serves as a liaison to Planning and Facilities Management, and oversees Residence Hall Offices including package and key management. S/he Develops relationships with key campus partners, coordinates integrated services for Residential Living, and utilizes technology to support the mission. The incumbent also develops and updates publications, rates, and communications. S/he makes presentations regarding housing to parents, prospective students and University departments. The Director designs and implements an inclusive residential environment conducive to learning and engagement. The Director plays a key role in responding to student and campus-wide emergencies and coordinating response as a member of the division -level emergency response rotation. Budgetary responsibilities are in excess of fifty-four million dollars. Duties include but are not limited to:

Human Resources and Organizational Management
·         Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises two Associate Directors, one Office Manager, an Assistant Director and Coordinator for Marketing & Communications
·         Responsible for academic year and summer occupancy management, including projections.
·         Responds to student, parent and community concerns regarding housing policies, facilities and services . Develops policies and procedures (i.e. selection, assignments, conferences, requirements)
·         Coordinates with partner offices including Planning and Facilities Management, GU Police, University Information Services, Global Education, Academic Resource Center, University Counsel to ensure standards, response, planning, and priorities. Sets room rates and conference rates.
·         Oversees 54M in finances encompassing academic and summer housing and summer conferences. Plans and organizes budget supportive of goals and objectives. Develops long -range planning for budget, staffing structure, and resource allocation.
·         Develops long -term plan for replacement of moveable equipment, carpeting and painting and works with vendors
·         Serves on-call divisional-level duty rotation after hours and responds appropriately in crisis situations. Serves on the Campus Emergency Response Team.
·         Participates, develops, implements, and assesses the campus crisis management in the residential environment
·         Assesses risk and liability and appropriately consult with campus partners
·         In conjunction with Facilities Management, establish protocols and standards for residential facilities maintenance and cleaning
·         Develop long term residential facilities improvement plans
·         Coordinates crisis intervention and response
·         Serves as an Emergency University employee
·         Oversee training and leadership training and development for student employees

Leadership
·         Lead, motivate and inspire others to contribute to department success. Establish policies in line with University policies, priorities, and laws. Develops and promotes a shared vision throughout the department.
·         Facilitates, implements, and evaluates goals and standards. Develops policies and programs consistent with and in support of institutional values, goals, and mission. Informs and collaborates with campus departments about issues and policies.
·         Represents the department and division to internal and external constituents. Develops strategic relationships fostering the undergraduate living and learning experience.
·         Provides leadership for the Office of Residential Living. Serves on departmental, divisional, or University committees. Engages with campus partners.
·         Ensures equity, diversity and inclusion.
·         Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
·         Master’s Degree (in higher education or related field) with a minimum of 7-10 years or progressively responsible administrative and supervisory experience in higher education, especially student housing
·         Familiarity with student housing management systems
·         Demonstrated knowledge of organizational, managerial, budgetary, and financial management skills
·         Experience in leading and supervising a diverse group of professional and student employees
·         Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communications skills
·         Understanding of legal and risk management
·         Experience in housing occupancy management
·         Facilities and crisis management

Preferred Qualifications
·         Experience in residential master planning, renovation and construction
·         Understanding of and experience in a Jesuit, Catholic educational setting with particular attention to the role that mission plays in developing students, such as demonstrated care for the whole person and supporting diversity in community; and skills related to data and assessment
·         Ability to work collaboratively with a broad group of stakeholders
·         Knowledge of higher education, learning and student development theory, and student affairs is important
·         Must be able to work the month of August (training and residence area opening), understand and commit to the expectations inherent in an on -call staff member
·         Willing to work occasional evening and weekend hours, closing and opening of semesters, and peak summer conference season
