TWO (2) CAREER SERVICES ADVISOR POSITIONS AVAILABLE AT COLGATE UNIVERSITY
The position will be responsible for the following accountabilities:
Accountable for guiding students through a self- and career-discovery process leading to career options that are best-fit with passions, strengths, values, and skills. Empowers student self-discovery and reflection as related to career choices, including the
articulation of the value of their Colgate liberal arts education and co-curricular experiences.
Ensures students expressing interest in assigned industries understand how to best enhance their candidacy and potential for future success. Teach students how to gain access, build connections and use available tools to effectively develop and leverage powerful
relationships with influencers in their related fields.
Accountable for establishing effective connections with diverse populations and groups of students. Accountable for effective outreach to assigned student populations such that the assigned students receive the full benefits and impact of career services. Accountable
for development, curation, and delivery of appropriate and effective content for use in communications, programming and outreach. Accountable for positively representing the mission and values of career services and the University across the full spectrum
of key constituents.
Representative duties may include:
- Provide approximately 20-22 hours weekly of face-to-face and electronic career counseling and advising to students and recent alumni during scheduled 60 and 30 minute appointments and 15 minute Quick Question drop in sessions.
- Assist students with making career decisions, writing job search correspondence and graduate school essays, and preparing for interviews.
- Develop and present programming to guide students in their career development and job search processes.
- Serve as a liaison to assigned industries, academic departments, diverse student groups and campus partners by understanding their unique nuances, representing their interests in strategic planning, and developing and sharing resources and opportunities as
appropriate.
