.Director of Alumni Relations
> Regular Full-Time Position
>
> General Description
>
> Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for University Advancement, the
> Director will be responsible for planning, developing and implementing a
> comprehensive alumni relations program for the University, including
> strategic planning, fiscal management and program development in support
> of the University's strategic advancement goals. The Director will serve
> as the Executive Director of the University's National Alumni Association,
> administering the volunteer alumni board and supervising support staff.
>
> Primary Duties and Responsibilities
>
>       Manage day-to-day operations of the 24,000 member National Alumni
> Association, including budgets and fiscal expenditures. Specifically:
>                               Develop, design and maintain programs for
> alumni to enhance affiliation with the University, including reunions,
> comprehensive fall Homecoming events, Round Up, and other special events
> throughout the year that advance APSU's National Alumni Association goals.
>                               Recruit and manage volunteer alumni board,
> as well as plan, administer and evaluate biannual alumni board meetings
> and retreats.
>                               Recruit, organize and train 30 alumni
> leaders for regional alumni chapters and districts.
>                               Coordinate involvement of University
> personnel in alumni programs and events.
>                               Coordinate participation of alumni in other
> areas that advance the strategic goals of the University; such as
> fund-raising, admissions, publications and marketing.
>       Coordinate demo/bio research and maintenance of the alumni data
> base.
>       Coordinate and supervise revenue-producing programs; including the
> alumni affinity card, logo merchandising, insurance program, and alumni
> travel program.  Identify opportunities to generate additional
> unrestricted University funds through such programs.
>       Design, develop and implement a comprehensive undergraduate "alumni"
> program to develop affiliation with an affinity for alumni programs among
> students before they graduate.
>       Serve as an integral team member in designing, planning, and
> executing special events in conjunction with the University's 75th
> anniversary.
>       Participate in national and state professional organizations and
> conferences to exchange ideas concerning alumni activities.
>       Identify new and innovative opportunities to interact with alumni
> from all areas of the country and from all class years.
>       Serve on University committees, as required, to advance the goals of
> the alumni relations program.
>       Perform other job related duties as assigned

> Essential Functions
>
>       Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to establish
> and maintain positive relationships with supervisors, co-workers,
> students, alumni and other members of the University community
>       Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and take a
> great deal of initiative.
>       Ability to maintain confidentiality.
>       Ability to recruit, train and motivate alumni volunteers at regional
> and national levels.
>       Ability to use skills in leadership, good management practice,
> ability to work as a team member, and basic knowledge of public relations.
>       Ability to develop and execute short-term and long-range strategic
> plans.
>       Ability to communicate effectively.
>       Ability to travel frequently and to work evenings and weekends as
> necessary.
>       Ability to effectively operate a personal computer, using
> WordPerfect for Windows, and other applicable software.
>
> Qualifications
>
> Bachelor's degree and minimum of 3-5 years of work experience in related
> area such as fund-raising, sales and marketing, or in university programs
> such as public information or admissions required. Background in working
> with volunteers, and experience in planning and implementing large,
> special events is highly desirable. Proven communication skills and
> excellent interpersonal, organizational and managerial skills essential.
> A background check will be required for the successful applicant.
