WRITER
Office of Public Affairs
Tennessee Technological University
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field;
minimum 2 years relevant experience in news/feature writing and editing;
computer word processing experience; knowledge of news media procedures and
AP style guidelines; strong interpersonal skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with a daily newspaper or public
relations office; marketing and advertising experience or training;
technical editing or writing experience or training; experience with
desktop publishing and design; experience with HTML, FTP, and other WWW
tools.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Promote a positive image, both internally and
externally, of the university through press releases and media relations.
Researches and writes copy for external releases and publications. Edits
and proofreads news releases and special publications. Fields calls from
news media concerning campus activities. Coordinates media interviews and
visits with television and radio personalities. Initiates contacts with
media to promote the campus. Supervises student interns. Manages a variety
of other tasks as needed. Reports to director of Public Affairs.
SALARY: $25,080
