Hello,
I am Ryan White, Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Florida Institute of Technology. Some colleagues and I are hosting an NSF-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates on statistical modeling with applications to geoscience during the summers of 2020-2022.
I just wanted to pass along details about this opportunity and the attached flyer in case students at our institution may be interested in applying.
The REU is an 8-week residential program for 8 students, which provides housing on our beach-side campus, supports travel, and pays a $5600 stipend to the students.
Applications for Summer 2022 are open until March 1, 2022, and can be accessed at https://research.fit.edu/smag-reu/
=============================================================
Further details:
Students attend campus (or experimental sites) from 9am to 5pm each weekday to work with our team of professors and graduate students, interact weekly with guest speakers from industry and academia, receive training in statistical modeling and machine learning as well as written and oral communication of their findings, and have some planned social activities (some dinners, beach trips, hikes, a visit to Kennedy Space Center).
Each student will work on one of four projects focusing on (1) progression of mountain glaciers from satellite imagery, (2) the diversity and extent of marine life on "Living Docks" in the Indian River Lagoon, (3) the climactic causes of ciguatera fish poisoning, and (4) global and local sea-level rise.
Best wishes,
Ryan
