Subject: New Book, Numerical Linear Algebra with Julia

Numerical Linear Algebra with Julia
by Eric Darve and Mary Wootters

Numerical Linear Algebra with Julia provides in-depth coverage of
fundamental topics in numerical linear algebra, including how to solve
dense and sparse linear systems, compute QR factorizations, compute
the eigendecomposition of a matrix, and solve linear systems using
iterative methods such as conjugate gradient. Julia code is provided
to illustrate concepts and allow readers to explore methods on their
own. Written in a friendly and approachable style, the book contains
detailed descriptions of algorithms along with illustrations and
graphics that emphasize core concepts and demonstrate the algorithms.

Subject: Irish Numerical Analysis Forum Seminar Series, ONLINE, Sep 2021

The Irish Numerical Analysis Forum (INAF) is an online initiative
where experts from various countries give talks on their subject areas
that are suitable for a general numerical analysis audience -- not
just those who already have some familiarity with the topic of the
talk.

The series resumes on 9-Sep-2021; more info, including a list of the
first few speakers and instructions for registering your name and
email address, are given at the INAF website at
https://staff.ul.ie/natalia/inaf

The talks will be streamed online via zoom and are free to view; one
must however register in advance with INAF to gain access to them. We
will usually have one talk every two weeks, but the talk timetable may
vary from this. A registration puts you on our mailing list for
receiving zoom links for all talks.

computational and data scientists. We are students, researchers,
practitioners, and educators. We come together to advance the use and
application of our work in industry, engineering, science, and
society. SIAM members have the quantitative, mathematical, computing,
and analytical skills that are needed in today's marketplace.

The SIAM Career Fair is an ideal place to recruit employees with
mathematical, computational, and data science education and training,
and it is also an excellent opportunity to present your company's
mission and vision to a broad audience.

Please view sponsor and employer participant packages and register for

From: Arvind K. Saibaba [log in to unmask]
Date: September 05, 2021
Subject: Postdoc Position, Randomized Numerical Analysis, NC State Univ

The Department of Mathematics at NC State University has an open
postdoctoral position under its NSF funded Research Training Group
RTG, DMS-1745654 in Randomized Numerical Analysis. The position is
restricted to US citizens, nationals and permanent residents. The
postdoctoral associate must hold a PhD in mathematics or a closely
related discipline awarded after January 1, 2021 and the applicant
should not have any prior postdoc appointments. An exception to this
rule, occasioned for instance by a career interruption, may be
requested in the cover letter.

The postdoctoral associate is expected to engage in research related
to at least one of the three complementary research thrusts of the
project in randomized numerical linear algebra, random nonlinear
solvers, and global sensitivity analysis. Based on background,
strengths and interests, the postdoc will be assigned one research
mentor from the faculty associated with the RTG: Alen Alexanderian,
Mohammad Farazmand, Pierre Gremaud, Mansoor Haider, Ilse Ipsen,
Hangjie Ji, Tim Kelley, Arvind Saibaba, Ralph Smith, and Fatma
Terzioglu. An academic mentor will be chosen from this group to
oversee the postdoc's training and professional development. The
postdoc will also play a leading role in mentoring students associated
with some of the project's working groups; they will be expected to
assist in organizing seminars and activities related to the general
research of the RTG. In addition, the postdoc will teach on average
one course per semester in the Department of Mathematics.
Inclusiveness and diversity are critical to the success of the College
of Sciences and the University. The selected candidate will be
expected to foster an environment that is supportive and welcoming to
all groups. This position is for a term of up to three years,
contingent upon performance. The starting date is anticipated between
March and August 2022. The 11 month salary of $62,500 includes summer
support. In addition, the postdoc will be given an annual travel
budget of $3,000. Through the mathjobs.org system
(https://www.mathjobs.org/jobs/list/18060), applicants should submit a
cover letter, a CV, a research statement and the names of at least
three potential letter writers. Women and members of under-represented
minority groups are particularly encouraged to apply. Applications
will be evaluated on a rolling basis until the position is filled;
please apply as soon as possible. Inquiries may be directed to Pierre
Gremaud (RTG Director): [log in to unmask] The deadline for full
consideration is November 15, 2021, although later applications will
be considered as resources permit.

Subject: Postdoc/PhD Positions, Data Science and Scientific Computing

We invite applications for two postdoctoral research
associates/fellows to join a collaborative team working on developing
new tools for real-time mathematical modelling and inverse problems at
large scale. These posts will contribute to two exciting projects at
the intersection of data science and scientific computing focusing in
the area of randomised numerical linear algebra in aid of (i) online
machine learning for human behaviour modelling in an assisted living
context, and (ii) real-time inference for inverse problems associated
with manufacturing applications. The posts will be a part of the
real-time simulation and computational imaging lab, within the
Institute for Digital Communications (IDCOM) at the University of
Edinburgh, that are funded by the Advanced Care Research Centre and
EPSRC respectively, and are in collaboration with colleagues at
Queen's University Belfast, Seagate Technology, GlaxoSmithKline and
nVIDIA Research.

The right individuals are expected to be highly motivated and
self-directed researchers with excellent research skills who can work
independently and contribute as part of a broad multidisciplinary
team, possessing experience in some of the following areas:
statistical computing, numerical analysis, inverse problems, machine
learning, and model order reduction.

Deadline for the postdoc positions is set to November 1st, 2021, with
the contracts expected to start soon after. Apply at:
https://elxw.fa.em3.oraclecloud.com/hcmUI/CandidateExperience/en/sites/CX_1001/job/18

We are also inviting applications for PhD studies on the same topics,
expected to begin sometime in the second half of 2022. Interested
candidates are encouraged to enquire asap at [log in to unmask]
