Locally Convex Spaces and Harmonic Analysis: An Introduction
by Philippe G. Ciarlet

This self-contained textbook covers the fundamentals of two basic
topics of linear functional analysis: locally convex spaces and
harmonic analysis. Readers will find detailed introductions to
topological vector spaces, distribution theory, weak topologies, the
Fourier transform, the Hilbert transform, and Calderon-Zygmund
singular integrals. An ideal introduction to more advanced texts, the
book complements Ciarlet's earlier book in which these two topics were
not treated. Pedagogical features such as detailed proofs and 93
problems make the book ideal for a one-semester first-year graduate
course or for self-study.

We are very happy to invite you to the third pyMOR School, which will
take place from 4-8 October 2021 at the Mathematics Munster Cluster of
Excellence Germany. https://school.pymor.org

This school is targeted at anyone interested to apply model order
reduction in their work using pyMOR (https://pymor.org). The school
will consist of both introductory lectures to model order reduction
and pyMOR as well as programming sessions. Participants are encouraged
to bring their own problems to work on. Basic knowledge of Python and
packages from the SciPy stack (NumPy, SciPy, matplotlib) is assumed.
For participants without any prior experience with Python, we have
linked introductory material on the school homepage.

Subject: Nonlocal Codes, ONLINE, Dec 2021

The One Nonlocal World Project and the Journal of Peridynamics and
Nonlocal Modeling (JPER) are glad to announce an online event
dedicated to Nonlocal Codes followed by a JPER Special Issue on the
same topic. We are planning to hold the event during the time period
of Dec 3-11 2021 for 1 or 2 days, according to the response we receive
from you.

Before providing more details on these initiatives, we would like you
to let us know your preferences by filling in this online form
indicating activities you'd be interested in (it takes less than a
minute!). https://forms.gle/ruChUwXn5iU1awM99 We will collect
responses until Fri Aug 20th.

Workshop on Nonlocal Codes: We are looking for researchers that are
willing to share their code by providing links to their public
repositories and by presenting their code during the workshop in a
short-presentation format (approximately 10, depending on the number
of submissions) followed by a longer session in a breakout room, open
to all attendees. Codes can span all nonlocal models (ranging from
peridynamics to fractional models) and all implementation aspects
(discretization, solvers, etc.).

Special Issue on JPER: After the workshop we will open submissions to
JPER for papers focused on available implementations of
discretizations of nonlocal models.

Subject: Postdoc Position, Research Software and Data, Univ of Goettingen

The Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 1456 Mathematics of
Experiment: The challenge of indirect measurements in the natural
sciences at the Georg-August-University Gottingen started in 2021;
more information on the CRC can be found at
https://www.uni-goettingen.de/en/628179.html. The infrastructure
project supports the constituent projects to meet the highest
standards in reproducible research and collaborate on software
projects and data. Therefore, the University of Gottingen and the
University Medical Center Gottingen offer positions for 1 PostDoc
candidate (f/m/d). The position should be filled as soon as
possible. The salary is in accordance with the German public service
salary scale (E13 TV-L) for two years. The position is offered with
100 % of the regular working hours.

For further details on the Collaborative Research Center, see here:
https://www.uni-goettingen.de/crc1456

The application deadline for both PostDoc positions is August 31,
2021.

Further details can be found here:

From: Amos Lawless [log in to unmask]
Date: August 13, 2021
Subject: Postdoc Position, Univ of Reading, UK

We are seeking a postdoctoral research fellow to work on an EPSRC-
funded project "Covariance regularization for data assimilation in
coupled dynamical systems". Data assimilation is a technique used to
combine observational data with numerical models to understand the
current state of a physical system. It is used on a daily basis to
initialize numerical weather prediction models. In practice the best
estimate of the state is found by minimising a large nonlinear
least-squares objective function, often involving millions of
variables. The sensitivity of the solution of this problem to changes
in the data can be measured by its condition number, which also serves
as a proxy for the amount of computational work needed to obtain the
solution. In this project you will analyse mathematically the
conditioning of new forms of the data assimilation problem using
techniques from linear algebra and demonstrate the theoretical results
using an idealized numerical model.

You will have: A PhD in mathematics or with a strong mathematical
content (or soon to obtain a PhD). Knowledge of linear algebra.
Programming experience in Python, Matlab or Fortran.

The project is fixed-term for 9.7 months, with a starting date as soon
as possible, and is based in the Department of Mathematics and
Statistics at the University of Reading.

Further information and details of how to apply can be found at
https://jobs.reading.ac.uk/displayjob.aspx?jobid=8151
The closing date for applications is 10 September.

For informal enquires please contact Dr Amos Lawless
([log in to unmask]) or Prof Nancy Nichols
([log in to unmask]).

Subject: PhD Position, Numerical Analysis, Hasselt Univ

We are looking for a PhD student in numerical analysis.

The present work is on the development and the analysis of a
high-fidelity, parallel-in-space-and-time numerical solver that can
cope with the singularly perturbed low-Mach Navier-Stokes equations in
real-world settings. Main tasks will be the mathematical analysis of
numerical methods and the efficient implementation thereof. Starting
from simpler equations and prototypical settings, you will
successively increase the complexity of the numerical model towards
the desired application. You should not be afraid of both working on
codes and of doing numerical analysis!
